Is a Petition needed to Dodge?

I have been a member of 3 of these New Dodge Challenger sites since I first saw the Concept articles 3 yrs ago now. All this time I have read many complaints about many subjects concerning all aspects of information, specifications, prices, availability, ordering , and it goes on and on. Now I understand that part of Dodge's marketing plan is to keep us in suspence but the time is now past for that kind of tactics. Therefore I'd like to know if any of you members would help make up a petition and sign it along with me to send to DCM or whereever to get them to be a little more honest and straightforward with how tey are marketing these new DODGE CHALLENGERS. Please read my post from another site which is my own personal experience that I've gone thru in just the past week or so since I got an E-mail from Dodge.com letting me know that I could go to my local Dodge Dealer and put my order in for a new Dodge Challenger SRT-8 with a custom numbered dash plate for around $40,000 . Now rember I have saved for 3 years and have the money to put down and?or pay for this car. Thay don't care about me at all !!!! please read on and let me know how you feel ?? Would you feel like telling them how you feel along with me and many others??? Check this out and let me know at gs_80_86@yahoo.com or post on here Thanks everyone, Locomotion

To all members who are Dodge salesmen , or work for Dodge , or claim to have some insider connection or anybody that cares to comment . To the moderators please put this to the right subject so I don't step on anyones toes, OK. Now let me cry on all your shoulders a bit as I have been patiently waiting , as we all have , and saving my money for 2 years now, Started off saving for a Dodge Charger but when I saw the first Challenger Concept pics , WOW. Now I'm a semi retired guy and this will probably be my last muscle car and my first NEW muscle car to say the least. Now I have the money to put down and enough saved to pay for this Challenger MSRP so I go to 5 different Dodge dealers in the New Jersey, Penna. area with cash in hand and the letter telling us to go to your local Dodge dealer to put your order in for your new Challenger SRT-8 . What do all thses 5 dealers tell me?....well they all said in one way or another that they have no news to order, no order forms, no authorization, no price lists, and most of all they do not know if they will get an "ALLOCATION " to order 1 or 5 or 10 at all. Now I'd like to know .....IF ANYONE KNOWS .....what the he#% is going on with DCM, Dodge, Chrysler or the new company that took them over??? After saving and waiting along with the rest of you I'm really MAD, SAD, PI3%ed off, disgusted at this company. What in Gods earth is going on , are they selling these cars, are they taking orders, or what???? NONE of the 5 dealers would take a deposit, fill out any kind of order or even promise I'd be on a list....said they were afraid of not being able to deliver on a promise....HAHA HA HA what a joke this whole mess is becoming!!! If anyone would care to answer or reply E-mail me at gs_80_86@yahoo.com or post on here. I'm in ok health now but at my age who knows what happend by the time I can order my new Chalenger??...LOL Anyway thanks to all for lettin me get this off my chest, A LOYAL MOPAR MAN from 1957 till now, FATCAT

Re: Is a Petition needed to Dodge?

Note to Sticky , I understand how these forums work well and my post is different than what you pulled up, IE they are already building the Challenger, my beef with DCM is thier sales tactics and lies to me via E-mail and my attempts to actually order, buy , or put a deposit on one , so is this is wrong then this whole site is wrong , with all due respect ! a loyal MOPAR man since 1957, LOCOMOTION

Re: Is a Petition needed to Dodge?

You can't blame the dealers for lack of knowledge. I have a friend of 40 years who works for a Dodge dealer, and has for some time. He also helps order the cars for the dealership. So I trust what he says. The Dodge dealers were kept in the dark as much as the general public. I was telling him things I read on this forum or elsewhere that he didn't know. Of course, he only could count on "official" information from Dodge, and that was pretty skimpy.

As for what price the dealers sell the car at, the MSRP is only a suggested price, and the dealer is allowed to sell the car for whatever price he choses. That is Federal law. So, it's up to the dealer's conscience how he prices the car. Dodge, by law, cannot interfere.

I understand what you're saying. I'm in the same boat you are, having saved up for over 2 years to buy this car. But just do as I'm going to do and wait it out. I'll buy an '09 when the hype has died down, and more colors and a 6-speed are available. I assure you that when the Camaro comes along in '09, everything will change. GM has said they plan to build 100,000 of them a year, so they will be selling under MSRP in a short time. 2009 is said to be the last year of the current Mustang body cycle, so they will have incentives on them all year. Both of these scenarios will drive down the price of the Challenger, at least to MSRP, if not below.

Good things come to those who wait

Re: Is a Petition needed to Dodge?

Agreed......... I expected this to happen just as it has. Dealers are marking up a car that is not able to fill orders or produse this car fast enough. Mustang and camaro will drive the price down, more options will soon be available, and dealers will soon be trying to sell us these cars with rebates and below msrp pricing. Just be patient bro..... You will have even more toi choose from soon.

Re: Is a Petition needed to Dodge?

Perhaps, instead of a petition, maybe Challengertalk and members can obtain/rent several school busses painted up in the purple Challengertalk motif and lettering: and we all ride up to Detroit and have a little "Roundtable" with our friend -Mister Robert Nardelli !!! Perhaps a few remain outside with petition bedsheets waving i.e the America Flag and a few Les Canadien flags too !!!

Re: Is a Petition needed to Dodge?

I work for a five star dealer and as of right now the only word I have heard which sounds about right since they are only making a limited amount in the first year, is that the top dealers in the country are only able to get 2 for the first year. This is also what the owner of the dealership I work for said, he said that is the rumor going around between all the big people at chrysler.Once again though that is the "RUMOR".So I guess we will all just have to wait it out.But 2500 dealerships with an allocation of 2 does sound about right. We will see what happens.

Welcome Locomotion,

Face it, dealers want to sell whats on the lot..... Getting them to invest any time researching info about a car that won't be out for another 4-6 months can be tedious.

If you can't find a dealer to take your order for the 2008 at MSRP, Waiting for the 2009 models is the smart thing to do.

I'm waiting for the 6.4 myself.

(For some reason the dealers seam to be the last person to know any new info)

Re: Is a Petition needed to Dodge?

I've waited over 30 years for a new muscle car to be introduced to the U.S. market. I think I can wait a few more months for all the details to come out without getting too antsy...

Re: Is a Petition needed to Dodge?

The bottom line is this:

Dealers can sell the car for whatever they choose.
The greedy ones are selling for over sticker because they know people will pay for it when the demand exceeds the supply.
The reputable dealers are selling at MSRP. It took some digging on my end but I did find one.

If you are paying MSRP, you WILL be put on a list. Face it, people are lining up for this car and this is really the best way to handle this situation.
Dealers could not officially place orders for the car until Dec 3rd. So any preorder dealings was totally up to the dealership and I suspect you experience of going around with cash in hand was all prior to last week when it was up to the dealer to do what they wanted. It sounds like you have not found a dealer who is willing to have a list for selling @ sticker yet. You may not have any in your area. It took me a while to find one as well.

In fact, the first dealer I had lined up well over a year ago fell through. The official salesperson keeping the informal Challenger list left and the Sales Manager who referred me to him as well told me they will sell @ sticker was gone too. The new sales manager decided to play the game of selling to highest bidder. I quickly found another dealer selling @ MSRP. Unfortunately, I was now #12 on the new dealer list as opposed to being #1 on the first dealer list.
