I think that they forgot to add the $2,100 gas guzzler tax.

Just what is the GGtax monies used for ? Just who calculates this Guzzler Tax ? Is a Guzzler's vehicle mileage per week, day, month or year taken into account. If a Challenger is ,say , only driven 100 miles per week per year as compared to an everyday driven non-guzzy vehicle then I think a verifiable document should negate this so-called $2100 Guzzy Tax ?!?!? P.S. As compared to say a town's public works' vehicles that are left running and running; spewing out obnoxious diesel fumes , cops' cars that are also left running and running, while they go into 7-11's for potentially Free Coffee. ..etc !!!

In Ontario Canada, the government calls it a levy, not a tax. It is based on the published fuel consumption rates and and nothing to do with the potential amount of fuel that the car will actually use. It is like liquor and cigarettes, you have to pay extra for the fun in life.

See my previous post that explains how the gas guzzler tax is calculated:

Just wait till the dealers get them. Huge dealer mark up. When the GTO first hit the Pontiac dealer the mark up was 10K above MSRP

Question Re: Price jumps from $37,995 to $40,095 in 1 day

We now know the price of the 2008 Challenger, but what we don't know is how it is optioned. If it has the 3 option groups of the Charger SRT, the $37,995 MSRP price (exclusive of the gas guzzler price) could have been pumped up by $3,690.

This leads me to ask two questions:

1. Will the base 2009 SRT have the same pricing as the limited edition 2008 (with dash plates)?

2. If the 2008 model is loaded with all 3 option groups (i.e., GPS, alarm, kicker stereo, etc.), can a 2009 model be special ordered for $34,305 without the $3,690 in options? That would give us a price of $36,405 ($34,305 + $2,100 gas guzzler tax) plus license, tags, and sales tax.

1- I think the SRT 2008 being a very limited edition is more expensive than a SRT 2009 with the same equipment.

2- I have no clue! Will have to wait and see!

Ok . Well, then what about semi-trucks and even school busses [unless those are natural gassed ones ] ? What MPGs do they get ; or are trucks like that exempt ? I mean just because they're big trucks and lots more school busses around than a few Challengers ...doesn't equate to a Gas Guzzy Tax { but then again Rahamuffin is not Minister of Guzzy Tax ; if so, I give all Challengertalkers a pass } !

Re: Price jumps from $37,995 to $40,095 in 1 day

Tried to order mine today after being number one on the local dealer's supposed wait list for over a year (and having some money down as a deposit). The floor manager guy came over to ask if I had 48K on me. I said the car was 38K and that was what the sales guy promised to sell it to me for. He said he's selling it to the highest bidder starting at 10K over (so much for the waiting list and sticker price).

Never buying from them (Willie Goodlow at Huntsville Dodge) in the future.
