General DiscussionThis section contains general discussion about the new Dodge Challenger concept. If it does not fit into a more specific area, it probably belongs in here. (Dodge Challenger General Discussion)
Tried to order mine today after being number one on the local dealer's supposed wait list for over a year (and having some money down as a deposit). The floor manager guy came over to ask if I had 48K on me. I said the car was 38K and that was what the sales guy promised to sell it to me for. He said he's selling it to the highest bidder starting at 10K over (so much for the waiting list and sticker price).
Never buying from them (Willie Goodlow at Huntsville Dodge) in the future.
You can bet that a lot of dealers will be going down this path. Unfortunately they will probably find buyers who want the limited production versions.
No worries, consumers find out about these guys and just like you did, never recommend them to others. If someone says one thing and they change their mind, especially after being on the waiting list for so long, this should tell you something about the integrity, honesty and professionalism of the people behind this dealership. I would raise this to the General Manager of the dealership and tell them a deal is a deal in your opinion and that you waited and that the dealership cost you the opportunity to order it from someone else, especially after putting a 10K bounty on it. If you have anything in writing, you could pursue a civil case against them, they won't want to go down that path.
I suggest we all start a list of the dealers that are behaving this way so others don't get into this trap and we let everyone know that these dealers are examples of dealers that don't adhere to their agreements.

That is a great idea!!! Maybe another list of the dealers at msrp and below.

I was supposed to be second on the list, although they would not accept a deposit. Now they won't call me back. It's not a big deal, since I wanted a 6-speed anyway. So I guess I'll wait til '09. Or buy a Mustang.

I just talked to the guys at Northtown dodge in western NY. I bought my diesel dually ram from them, and they are good to deal with. They said they have been turning down deposits for the last year because they dont know what their alotment of challengers will be. They had just put in orders for 6 challengers today and are waiting to see how many they will actually get(they believe at least 2 because of the volume of cars they sell). When the challengers come in their price will not above MSRP, I actually believe them too. When I had them order my truck, sticker was 41,000 and they gave it to me at 34,500 straight up with no games at all.
I got my deposit back. It was only $50. When I first put it down they wanted $500 but I had a feeling they'd pull something like this and I didn't want to give them $500 for almost 2 years so I said I'd do $50.
The other dealer next town over has a much better reputation but they are going highest bidder on any they get. At least they told me that up front, so I'm not mad at them. If a dealer wants to charge over MSRP, they can (and I'm free to not buy there); just don't promise me I'm first on some list that doesn't exist.
What happened to being around the same price as the mustang's and camaro's. You can get a GT mustang for less then 30,000 out the door! I don't think I can do 40,000.

Yeah, this is common, but I'll tell you what, I bought my Charger SRT8 when they first came out and paid $500 under invoice when they had it listed for 8K more than that. I went in said, I don't want to be FckD with because I've bought 4 Daim/Chrysl cars, and they said okay, and backed off. I don't fault dealers for trying to make money, but if a customer holds firm to what's fair, and a dealer says no, they are no good to deal with especially if the customers willing to pay almost MSRP.
There was a guy on Challengerforums who said his Dad owned a dodge dealership and said SRT challengers would be selling for 8-10K over and he could get his own flesh and blood one for that. Now there's a Dad that doesn't love his son that much, or his son is working for the comapny as a car salesman and just trying to sell the scam. For all those out there who want these cars, if you want the price gouging to officially stop, then stop being retarded and giving in to paying that much because all decent consumers end up suffering for it. If we all stop, DC will have no choice but to mandate a specific price. A dream, but hopefully people will wise up.
