Product placement/challenger/transformer movie/new camaro
I guess everyone knows about the transformer movie that is out. I went and watched it because a friend had free tickets. I never watched the cartoons because when the stuff came out I was past the cartoon watching age. I'm not a fan, but it was entertaining.
My point of this thread is in the movie the hero drives the new camaro. The movie at some points is like a camaro/chevy commercial. They really do a good job of show casing the camaro and they go as far as to have one of the key robot transformers take on the camaro image. I guess my point is what is dodge doing for product placement for the new challenger? Has anyone heard of a movie coming out to show the car off? While watching the transformer movie I kept thinking "man this movie has just sold a half a million" camaros. I must admit the camaro looked really good in the film. Some of the shots of the car looks just like a car commercial. http://www.usatoday.com/money/autos/...mer-cars_N.htm Anyhow, anybody got some scoop on a movie with the new challenger in it? Dodge, better get on the ball and market the challenger or it won't sell like the camaro. They need to start marketing NOW!!! Last edited by Handmouth : 07-04-2007 at 03:23 AM. |

Re: Product placement/challenger/transformer movie/new camaro
That movie was amazing. The Camaro looks INCREDIBLE. I've seen it in person and I know that it's a good looking car, but the movie really accentuates it and also adds in the 'on the road' factor.. I think it's funny that the particular car they used in the movie was built on an old Dodge Challenger though!
Personally... I'm really torn right now.. the Challenger is AWESOME, but the Camaro has really grown on me in the past few months. There's more media about the Camaro too.. maybe that's the issue? I guess we'll just have to see what happens this next show circuit and at SEMA (which I will be attending again)

Re: Product placement/challenger/transformer movie/new camaro
I will see "BUMBLEBEE" soon! I have been a MOPAR fan all my life...and still am. But Chrysler is not making it easy for me. I feel Dodge will not go all the way with the CHALLENGER and will cut corners. I want a light, low and sexy CHALLENGER...not a big 300 in CHALLENGER clothing! The idea is not to produce the Chall as cheap as possible but to build a "flag ship"! The CHALL was not shown in the Montreal (Quebec) area... but the Camaro was. My wife is in love with the Camaro and I am starting to have problems to justify my choice. I will buy what I want...but I am starting to look at the Camaro differently!

Re: Product placement/challenger/transformer movie/new camaro
the challenge was in toronto and vancover this past show season, chevy has 2 driving concepts,(silver and the orange convert., plus the red non driver) dodge has only the 1concept and the black ss. i'm sure dodge will do something with the car.

Re: Product placement/challenger/transformer movie/new camaro
I'm slowly leaning towards the Camaro... not only for looks, but also for the LS motor's ease of modification and maintainence.

Re: Product placement/challenger/transformer movie/new camaro
While I do agree with you that the LS has, and always will have, better aftermarket support, can you really be considering a Camaro? I grew up in a Chevy household, my father was chevy, chevy, chevy. But how can you consider a run-of-the-mill, everybody-owns-one Camaro over a eye-catching Mopar?
Chevy is marketing the Camaro because they have to. Yes it is smart business to gain interest before the product is released, but Chevrolet will make the car like they make every car, cheap and mostly plastic. |

Re: Product placement/challenger/transformer movie/new camaro
I will agree that the Camaro concept has some interesting and aggressive lines, but as with many of GM's contemporary efforts......it has one too many "ugly factors" that keep me from developing interest. First, the front grill needs to wipe the smile off its face. They should have kept the front lines parallel like a first gen Camaro, and smoothed out the pointy front prow while they were at it. Next, the Silverado grade bowtie emblem has to go. I know there's such a thing as brand pride, but I can tell you I'd never have bought my 05 GT if Ford had stuck a huge blue oval on the front grill instead of a pony. Lastly, the Corvette sorta-wannabe backend sucks azz. Give it some 4th gen styled rear lamps and you've got something.
Either way, I'm not holding out much hope that the current concept will remain largely untainted on its way to the production model. I'd be willing to be that everything that makes the concept bold and great, will get watered down in the translation.........like the sharp angles, wide stance, and chopped top. I guess we'll see.........but on principle alone I don't intend to get behind the wheel of a Chevy. Only the Corvette could ever convince me to do that. ![]()

Re: Product placement/challenger/transformer movie/new camaro
Also, been reading about the pricing for the camaro verses the challenger. Sounds like the challenger is going to be big bucks and the camaro will be cheaper, but still have the same horse power.
Aw, whatever, I love the way the challenger looks and their is no way I'm going to buy the camaro. I just don't want the challenger to come out and tank it's first year. Dodge better get promoting quick. How about some "vanishing point" remake? How about redoing "crazy larry dirty mary" but with a challenger. |

Re: Product placement/challenger/transformer movie/new camaro
I said "I FELL that Dodge will not go all the way with the CHALLENGER and will cut corners". Of course the final production CHALLENGER is not out yet and I will wait for the final product before deciding what to do. So far, I think that the cost cutting facts are changing the concept from a hard top to a coupe to save some $ and raising the roof on the Chall to save some $ on the assembly line by making it easier to build the 300, Charger and Chall on the same assembly line (same height and general dimensions...less investment and time to build). It costs more to make a car lighter and as far as I know the Chall's weight will be in the Charger range! I hope that I am wrong but we will all know when the production Chall comes out. Untill then, I am keeping all my options open...but hoping for an outstanding CHALLENGER in my driveway!
