I thought I read that the hood would be functional? Unless the opening is behind the plastic honeycomb inserts, I dont think they are.

Because of the cost-cutters, the functional hood scoops with the vacuum-controlled butterfly valves are definitely out. I suggested to Dodge to simply install a manual control on the valves (like the control on the old shaker hood scoop), but I guess that fell on deaf ears. It looks like the Challenger will have dummy hood scoops just like the standard hood on the 1970-1974 models.

At best, the SRT may have semi-functional hood scoops, like the one on the SRT Charger, that simply blow cool air over the engine and manifolds.

It is a real shame because it is not hard to produce. Metalcrafters, which designed the concept 'Cuda, had a very slick shaker ram air set-up. To see what I mean, click on the following and scroll down to the 7th photo:
