Rail Dust

When you guys receive delivery on your Challenger, the first think you should do is to use a clay bar on it.

When vehicles are transported from the manufacturer by rail, iron dust particles created by friction between train wheels and the track settle on the finish. When these particles are exposed to oxygen and moisture, this dust corrodes and become embedded in the finish.

Yea, there was quite a bit of discussion in the exterior care section regarding this. Should be a sticky for a must read of new owners.

I followed that thread, and learned a lot. Thank you to the contributors. I have asked my dealer not to detail my car, because of what I learned. I bought all the suggested products, and will clay bar mine right after a light wash, then it's Maguiars NXT.

Re: Rail Dust

And do the clay bar sooner rather than later. My mustang sat on the lot for almost a year before I bought it and the rail dust would not come up with the clay bar. The Ford dealer sent it off to get wet sanded and came back looking beautiful. Request the same if yours does not come up. Mine was more obvious on a white Mustang.
