So I was just reading a thread about the 'new' camaro and some people were saying that 'retro' styling was dead or on its way out.
I, for one, honestly don't believe that. I think that the problem is that most of the cars aren't actually really styled retro looking. The Challenger is. The Mustangs were and the camaros sort of were.
This is the reason I fell in love with the Challenger styling. While I know things need to change over time, I know that there could be a huge revival if done RIGHT. Look at the relaunch of the GTO's. That was a flop. Why? Because they could have done SO much to make it retro looking. I honestly had my hopes up that they would appear retro as one of my dream cars was a 67 GTO. It didn't happen. I thought it looked just like every other car on the road.
The PT Cruiser was a hit. It died after a while because there were no changes. They could have gone even more retro in redesigns for that to make it an even bigger seller. If they increased the size a little too that may have helped.
The reason I love the Challenger is that it's a full size car and actually fits me. I'm 6'3, 250. There aren't many cars that offer me any sort of room. I feel cramped in most unless I'm going to buy a truck or a minivan.
I really believe that the retro look can come alive again as people are tired of seeing the same old 'half moons' on the road. You can't tell one car from another if you're an average driver anymore.
What are your thoughts?
