Talking RT vs. SRT

In the chargerforums website, there is often the discussion of whether the SRT is worth the extra $10,000 over the RT. Some budget conscious buyers think that a cheaper way to go is to buy the RT and mod it to increase the horsepower.

But they don't consider than your $10,000, besides buying you 425 hp., also buys you:

*Exterior (e.g., front and rear fascias, hood scoop, rear spoiler) and interior appearance items.
*Better sounding exhaust.
*Firmer dampers, higher spring rates, stiffer bushings, and bigger antiroll bars. *Lowered stance.
*Twenty-inch, forged-aluminum wheels.
*Goodyear Supercar F1 performance rubber, 245/45 in the front, 255/45 in the rear.
*Limited production car that should appreciate faster.

If you can afford it, buy an SRT!

Thumbs up Re: RT vs. SRT

I'm right with you on this one. I always say that if your going to buy a car like the Charger or the Challenger then you should go all out and get the highest model you can. This way you spend less to customize and upgreade it. If you buy the lower model then that is just more money you have to spend to get it up to the SRT version.

For sure buy the SRT....

Re: RT vs. SRT

You forgot to mention the free SRT track experience that comes along with the purchase of every SRT. That has quite a bit of value in it's own...

Still wondering if the 6.1 in the Challenger will be dubbed a RT or SRT though... Has Dodge ever done that? Taken a SRT engine from another vehicle and not called that car a SRT model?

Don't see why they couldn't. The SRT badge has nothing to do with a particular engine, it simply denotes the top-end, most powerful model for a vehicle. If they plop the 6.1 into the R/T, then they truly have no choice but to put the 6.4 (or a more tuned 6.1?) into the SRT model.

Also, the PT/GT Cruiser has the 2.4 SRT-4 motor as an option (although slightly de-tuned if I remember correctly) and it didn't get an SRT nameplate. Because it didn't get the full SRT treatment: suspension, body panels, etc..

All I know is that, if you're looking for brute force and speed, those skunkworks guys won't let you down.

**Also: I'm curious if they DO make the 6.1 the R/T motor, will they find a way to de-tune it a little bit or add the MDS feature to that engine? So it shuts half the cylinders off for highway cruising to save gas mileage?
