Re: Sales Tax

425, I know you're going through Bob Frederick just like I am. I'm in a similar situation (I'm in Michigan, Bob Frederick is in Ohio). This is what he shared with me on one of my initial emails to him.

You'll want to check with Bob but I'm guessing it's the same for you. Bob will be collecting Michigan Sales tax from me and then I assume I get some sort of "proof of payment" of sales tax to bring to the state to show I paid. I'm guessing Bob's dealership in some fashion passes that along to Michigan.

I've bought trucks and cars out of state several times in several states and I've had them add my home state sales tax into the financing and they gave me a check for the tax and tempory reg. to get home then I registered and paid sales tax in my home town with their check.

We will all know very soon, but the rumor is that the SRT's gas guzzler tax (due to slighly better gas mileage) has been reduced from $2,100 to $1,750 for 2009.

Re: Sales Tax

I'm a canuck so can't be sure about the differences between states, but usually in canada or between canada and the US when you buy something *IF* the seller makes you pay the tax then when you get home and have to pay your own tax you can contact the tax agency in the state/province where you bought the item and prove you paid tax in your home province/state/country and you can get it back from them.

Its a pain and you're out money for a while but I think thats the worst case scenario. You normally would only pay tax where you live or finally register the vehicle.

and 425. 2%???????? thats SICK!!! its 10% here. can I come live with you? LOL

Bob told me that Alabama is not a state he collects taxes from. Or so he thinks. he told me that the day i got on his list, because that was a concern of mine. I knew Ohio's taxes were higher than ALabama's, but i didnt know how much.

Re: Sales Tax

Thats is how it works you pay at your lcoal DMV only and not at the Dealer so have some cash aside to pay the taxes when getting your plates at the DMV in your state.
