General Challenger DiscussionThis section contains general discussion about the Dodge Challenger. If it does not fit into a more specific area, it probably belongs in here. (Dodge Challenger General Discussion)
Nice cars, congrats! Yeah, the challenger is one of those cars you wanna keep forever. I'm debating on selling me jeep and getting a charger as well, for my company car... heck, may even get the 14' srt... who knows. Nice I can write it off. LOL
As far as your Boss, goes, how does it compair to a GT-500? Better on the track? I was debating on a GT500 for quite some time now. May just pull the trigger myself this year.
I've never driven the GT500 but in test videos I've seen online the 2013 Shelby is a beast and will outrun the Boss on a road course. However, most of the auto writers say the Boss is a lot easier to drive well on the track and is overall better balanced and more fun. The biggest reason I went Boss is it being at least $20k cheaper and I've heard horror stories about how expensive it is to insure the new Shelby.
The Boss is more than fast enough for me. Bone stock is runs zero to 60 in 4.2 and the quarter in 12.4.
The GT500 is a whole other animal. Lighter, much more power, and a more performance tuned suspension. Every video I've watched of those things is ridiculous.
Cool, thanks for the info! Enjoy both of your new toys. I can understand why insurance is higher, but you wouldn't think THAT much higher... Unless your young, then I could understand a little. My insurance company I go thru DID ask me when I bought my challenger if it was supercharged. LOL... really? The boss numbers aren't far off from an SRT auto. But I'm sure it would get its ass kicked once the modding begins. Hope you enjoy the track, sounds like the boss was built for it.

hmm, i was going for a bashing, but... keeping the charger as daily driver, having right of first refusal and buying a 302 does match the "no bashing policy" at my home;
this high rev 302 is definitely an attraction and worth the purchase without the help of a supercharger, keeping it all natural, really cool
i have committed to road course with the challenger and understand i will never win at time trials... forget racing...
if your 302 does not come with racing brake fluid, please do the swap, it will help against abuse lap after lap and avoid fading and boiling of fluid in lines... it gets messy
if you are on the east, see you at some NASA events this year!

That is the one car that would make me jump ship from my SRT. I have never driven one, but I know if I do, I'd come home with it. Nice car! While I like the GT500 and have driven a 09, that car is/was a handful to drive well. The Boss 302 is the best balanced and second quickest Stang on the market. I for one don't care as much about straight line performance as my driving skills are not good enough to make much of a difference. What I do love is tossing a car into corners and taking off ramps fast. My first love is sports cars with muscle cars a close second. The Boss 302 blends the two together and is the DRIVER'S choice.

Thanks for all the positive replies guys. I was expecting a little good natured bashing! The only reason I could do this is knowing I'll get my Challenger back someday as I plan on keeping her forever. The Boss just fits more with what I want to do with a performance car and the Charger will make a better all around daily driver.
You will love the change, but you will also miss your challenger! I am a car nut and wish my wallet could keep up with my needs...lol....I have two beasts sitting side by side in the garage; a 2013 Shelby GT500 and a 2012 Challenger SRT! I had a 2012 GT500....a big difference a year makes....much like the 2010 Challenger I had versus the 2012. Anyway, I don't want to be perceived as a snob or anything...I work hard to have both. My point is you will always miss the size and look of your challenger. You will have a lot more hair raising experiences with the pony.....which makes life very fun and interesting! Be careful with it...and don't let your friends drive it......no matter how experienced they 'think' they are! I learned that the hard way with a previous pony car I owned....not funny at the time....keep us posted!

I can vouch for the new GT500, but from my research the Boss is a better balanced car for serious track users...it's a little smaller and weighs less of course. I personally love blowing the doors off other cars in a straight line, with a few curves to keep it interesting, which led to the Shelby. This year, the GT500 has the optional track package....the buyer would have to decide if it's worth an extra 20k.....lol....

Boss = Track
Shelby = 0-60 Dragging at every red-light and horrifying your opp.
Just how it is. Sad thing is, side by side, I wouldn't know the difference. Stangs are stangs. Respect 'em, performance wise, but look wise, about as...common as a Camry\Corolla\Civic around here. 5.0 Is not a scary engine, even against the 6.1...I cant' believe 6'4 owners are scared of them lol. One thing the Challenger taught me, as I drove the GT-500, and the SS and Z06 prior to the Challenger, was that speed is not all that matters. It's about the feeling you get behind the wheel. And holy hell has my Challenger been through SERIOUS warranty work, first year owner here! Only SRTS! I still know nothing else would compare for me. They do stick by them though.

I noticed you were considering the new Shelby GT500..... But maybe the Boss would be fine because of its track capabilities....trust me, get the GT500 with all the goodies (track package) and you will have the top dawg! It is more $$$ than the Boss, but if you want the absolute top then you must pay...
I love the new GT500..... NOT to be compared to a Challenger! Any questions, just ask me....I also had a 2012 GT500. The 2013 is noticeably better....and I did enhancements to the 2012 which gave it more hp, etc. In my opinion you cannot beat factory performance...I have no plans to enhance this one...it's perfect...

The Challenger is still the best looking beast on the road...it's a damn shame that Dodge/SRT has failed to allow us (owners) enhance their performance, 2011+! Maybe next year the Challenger will be factory supercharged! Even so, they will make it difficult for us to enhance them....just my guess....
