Security Issue

I recently heard through local news about a security issue that I thought I would share, in case it hasn't already been posted here.

There is a device, a remote keyless entry signal amplifier, that can be purchased for about $17. It can be used to amplify the always active signal from your key fob to your vehicle, which can possibly allow entry in to your vehicle. I don't know for certain that this applies to our cars, but I don't know why it wouldn't.

Here is a link to an article I found relating to it.

Thieves using a $17 device to break into cars with keyless systems

Putting the keyless remote fob in a freezer will kill the battery life, because batteries do not tolerate extreme cold/heat.

A broken microwave oven [so it doesn't get turned on] in the garage does the same thing and will not kill the battery life.

Can't you just wrap them in foil?
I'd hate to have my Prius stolen...

People will make up any kind of ridiculous story just so they will not have to admit they forgot to lock their car.
