Should I do this mod or not

I'm considering changing my hemi orange r/t spoiler to flat black... I got a can of automotive flat black paint and I'm just a little uneasy still about going through with it. I was thinking that flat black would be a pretty easy color to do out of a can. If it was going to be painted body color than I would take it to a professional but I think flat black should go pretty smoothly. Somebody talk me out of it or into it

Re: Should I do this mod or not

hmmm...how good are you at spray paintingout of a can? Any runs or drips will look terrible. Might not be to much to just find a paint shop and have them hit it with a real spray gun. Plus I bet they will have higher grade paint.

Just my 2 cents. But I do think they look better black!

Re: Should I do this mod or not

Leave it alone... SRT's have black spoilers, not R/T's

Re: Should I do this mod or not

I think a black spoiler would look good as their is some much orange on the car that this would set it off. What I would do is do all the paint prep work for the painting ( wet sand the spoiler ) and then take it to a paint shop ( talk to your dealer he might give you a good price ) and have it painted and HEAT cured which makes a BIG difference ( on small items that I paint I heat cure them in the Oven ) So I would say go for it

Re: Should I do this mod or not

Someone on the forums already changed the color to flat black and it looked pretty good. Not sure what he used, but Id take the advice given earlier and take it to a paint shop. If it was a small detail piece, I think you would be fine with the can, but with something as prominent as the spoiler? Spend a little on this mod for sure!

Re: Should I do this mod or not

Leave it alone because it makes the R/T an R/T. Add a hockey stick hemi on each side in black and put on an R/T hood stripe in black. That is one thing about hemi orange - stripes look absolutely awesome on them. If you really want something on the back I would add the R/T Challenger patch there.

Re: Should I do this mod or not

Go buy one from a dealer. You will be surprised how cheap they actually are. Then you wrap the original up in an old blanket and tuck it away for resale value later when you sell the car.

Re: Should I do this mod or not

I know this isn't any real help, but I like the look of the spoiler both ways. I do agree though, that IF you paint it black, don't do it with a spray can....not for a $30,000+ car. It wouldn't cost that much if done by a prof. painter and the quality and durability would be so much better than a spray can.

Re: Should I do this mod or not

Don't do it.
Put the R/T emblem on the right side and enjoy.
