Should I go with the V6 or the V8?

Hey guys,

I'm new here, and wanted to start by saying I do not yet have a Challenger...but plan on getting one in the next couple months once the winter subsides around here. Anyway, I need help because I just cannot decide whether I want an SXT or RT. I know the main benefits of the SXT is the mpg and cost, and the RT has the performance. Honestly, if I got an SXT it would have to be the redline, which I think is just $500 less than the RT anyway..

One of the bigger questions I have is what MPG do you guys get? Both SXT and RT owners... The car I have right now gets about 17.5 MPG consistently, and honestly it kinda sucks. I would be looking for something a bit better than that..

Also, I would be using the car as a daily driver, to and from work and other places..and possibly taking this thing out in snow next season (ugh). Anyway, is the RT a practical everyday car? What is your guys opinion?

Thanks!

I have a RT, drive it everyday and get around 18 mpg. I love it! Get the RT, a co-worker got the SE and now has V-8 envy real bad...

It all depends on what you can afford, initial cost as well as insurance and gas. All Challengers look great and each has a different benefit. Good luck on your choice and post pictures when you get it.

Think long and hard before passing on the HEMI most times if you need to ask you want the V8. If MPG is really important get the six.

Is 18 the typical gas mileage then? I wouldn't say the gas mileage is the deciding factor..but I want to make sure I atleast get some upgrade to it. My friend actually owns an SRT8 and says 20 Mpg on the highway is possible.. So I would have hoped the RT was better.

I have done 22.3 mpg in my SRT and am sure I could do even better if I was trying to.

it seems that the MPG's are all over the place for the 6 and 8 cylindes especially with the mds in the 8's. The 6 will get you your mpg's better than the 8's will and thats for damned sure. 6 cylinders suck in city driving too. 4 bangers are city cars, my altima got awesome mileage all of the time no matter how hard i romped it. I am still breaking my car in and have around 3600 on it and the mileage is getting better, just takes time. I however, wanted performance when i bought this thing and the 6 wasn't performing as much as i wanted it to. The car is heavy for a 6 in my opinion, 6's in a 3200lb car...thats much better. I don't want to seem like i am bashing the 6, i have owned a 4, 6 and now and 8 and there is just no comparison in smoothness between the 6 and 8, its just more luxurious. If i hadnt chosen an 8, it would have been a 6 cylinder this go around if i had chosen a different car, i do want that pep. Now though, that i have a 8, if i got a second car it would be a 4 banger for BS driving.

Snow...well, where do you live? RWD cars suck in the snow. I bought my r/t knowing that i am moving back to arizona from nj. Had i been staying here...i may have gotten the 5.7 charger with AWD. I tried getting up my driveway the other day in fresh powder without snow tires....yeah right, did not happen. Even with snows i am pretty sure i wouldnt have made it up my driveway.

The challenger is an awesome looking sports car...it would have been a really tough decision for me had i decided to stay in jersey.

RT all the way...especially if you are going for the top end SXT.
