General DiscussionThis section contains general discussion about the new Dodge Challenger concept. If it does not fit into a more specific area, it probably belongs in here. (Dodge Challenger General Discussion)
My Neon SRT4 had a resonator set up instead of mufflers. Man that thing was LOUD. The drone was horrible on the interstate, but when you stood on it, it sounded great for a ricer. I will say it sounded incredibly deep below 3K RPM for what it was.
I have a friend with a Mustang GT w/cat backs and it drones BAD, that is something I do not want!
I hear yah there on the highway that will make a 3 hour ride feel like an all day torture session..Advil time!
Ill be happy with the stock set up!
Too bad they didntmake a exhaust like on off shore power boats you could hit a switch to muffle the noise!

That was their initial thoughts, but with the 6 speed it probably moves the power band to make for a higher top speed. Where as with the auto, you would be stuck due to lack of power in that particular gear. Thus the drag limited speed.
That was my thought. But maybe he meant the 08. Because the 08's dont get a LSD or any other part of the trak pak
It is drag limitted on both versions of the car. The stick car does not the parasitic HP loss the automatic has so it has a few ponies left to go a little faster.
I wanted to ask if there are plans for upgrading the stock SRT8 half shafts since they seem to be a bit of a weak link.
I was talking with a friend who is pretty knowlegeable about the SRT's and he said the shafts should be beefier in the 09's. Probably good to 550 hp.
The guys that have had problems with the current setup are really loading them hard at the track. (nitrous, forced induction,) The cars bounce a little at very hard launch particularly with Drag Radials.
The snap comes they are quickly loaded and unloaded.

Getting an aftermarket CAI/Headers/catback would drastically alter the exhaust note on any vehicle.
As for the Challenger, the SRT Team reported in the thread that the Challenger has a much different exhaust note even when compared to the similar platform Charger SRT8/300 SRT8. They said that it's as loud as they could make it while still being barely legal. Knowing that the 6-speed R/T and 6-speed SRT8 do not have a muffler, but instead two resonators, I am sure that the they're describing those cars when they mention the 'barely legal' exhaust note.
I'm excited to hear the 6-speeds unique exhaust system!
The SRT engineers also described the Charger exhaust as "barely legal" a few years ago.
It wasn't until I went to the catback that I started downshifting because it sounded so good.
With my Magnaflow cats/catback, the only drone is at part throttle under load (like going uphill), otherwise it's just got a nice hum that isn't intrusive at all - even my girlfriend and her friend in the back seat don't notice it.
BUT - if you drive something like a Honda Accord afterwards (ala my 14 reasons not to on the Charger/300C forums), you'll immediately miss the exhaust note.

Besides, drag limited is a relative term. You can push a brick wall to 500 mph if you have enough horsepower.

its not so much the power mods, that breaks the shafts. its the mods that get the power to the wheels, like torque converters, and drag radials.
