SRT8 Exhaust....

I know not that many people have seen em around but for those of you who have, how loud is this car stock? I've read that it is louder and deeper than a charger/300 SRT8 and just would like a different benchmark. I finally wound up next to a 300C SRT8 and when he pulled away the car sounded HORRIBLE, I couldn't hear anything really and I was stopped with no cars around. I know he probably wasn't gettin on it, but I don't have to get on it in my mustang for a good sound. My old SRT4 was loud stock and my Shelby has the Ford racing mufflers stock and it's got a good tone to it and after hearing that 300C I'm kinda nervous this thing won't sound that good stock, and I want this thing LOUD too. I really don't want to have to buy a new exhaust for this car. Thanks in advance!

Kelsey

Re: SRT8 Exhaust....

Its the perforations in the system. They are all different, Daytona being the loudest from the factory I believe.

Re: SRT8 Exhaust....

I was watching a number of exhaust note clips on Youtube last night for the Charger, both 5.7 and 6.1. If the the Challenger sounds anything like what I heard, it'll benefit from an aftermarket piece IMHO. Not to mention an intake and some hotter cams for that old-school lope.

I'll pass on the "old School Lope". I lived through that era with 383's 440's and Hemis sounding like the proverbial "coffee can full of rocks" at 900 rpm, fully warmed up. I had a 383 with a six-pack cam installed, and depending on the atmospherics, idled from fair to bad.

The current 6.1 Hemi is nothing short of amaizing in this day and age. The cam lift is .570 & .550 for the intake and the exhaust ( ! ). The old 426 Hemi's factory cam in 1970-71 was .493. The fact that it DOESN'T lope at it's idle speed @ 650 RPM, 2 minutes after you start it up on a cold morning, is a testament to modern engine control systems.

As for exhaust tone & loudness, I'll leave that to aftermarket stuff. But, I like the sound of the factory exhaust on my '06 300C/SRT8. To me, it has the correct balance of quietness at part throttle cruise, with a nice agressive howl when opened up.

I here the Challenger is a bit more assertive than my car. That's ok, so long as I don't have to listen to a droning exhaust on a long cruise. I only want to really here it when I get on it.

IMHO

If that's true, about it being a bit more assertive than the 300C, then I am sorry to hear that. Or rather not hear it, which is how I would describe the 300C SRT8.

I'm just hoping someone comes with an aftermarket side exhaust system like the T/A used to have.
