Re: Tell Dodge you want the Challenger in production NOW!!!

Similar to "weekend retreat", I ogled a 70 HemiCuda for weeks before it left the dealer. I should have bought the darn thing but didn't have the cash. I think it was something like $4200. That was a bunch of money back then. Now it is more than 10x that, still a bunch of money. I can't wait. Hurry up Dodge, get that SRT out there!

As a fun exercise I ran your numbers through an inflation calculator. Here's what it gave back:

What cost $4200.00 in 1970 would cost $21159.23 in 2005.
Also, if you were to buy exactly the same products in 2005 and 1970,
they would cost you $4200.00 and $833.68 respectively.
Do you want to do another calculation?

Not sure if the numbers are right but it looks like this Challenger will be far more expensive that the first generation, even adjusted for inflation.

Sounds like you are right about the numbers. Maybe the difference is that today's cars have sooo much more in safety, performance, epa, etc. stuff, so it has effectively doubled the actual cost. (and, I may be off on the 70 cost by a several hundreds)

Re: Tell Dodge you want the Challenger in production NOW!!!

Interesting comparisons adjusted for inflation. If you have ever been to one of the Barrett-Jackson Auctions, the price of the "new" Challenger will make you feel better in comparison to cars rolling across the block from the mid 60's to early 70's. I appreciate Chrysler / Jeep / Dodge doing something fairly radical on a limited production basis to address the *needs of guys like myself. I could only look through their showroom window in 1970. *( Okay, nobody needs a Hemi Challenger. ) But if Saturdays are meant for crusing along the coast or waxing a nice car in the garage with a ballgame on, may as well have the vehicle you wanted as a kid and can purchase outright today.

DCX,
I know you guys read this forum daily, so here goes; a T/A version, hopefully in the second year of production. With side pipes exiting just ahead of the rear tires, blacked-out hood with duel snorkel scoops, rear trunk lid spoiler (not a wing) retro decals and of course A 392 HEMI UNDER THE HOOD!! Thank you. Let me know as soon as it is available to order!!

Re: Tell Dodge you want the Challenger in production NOW!!!

Would pay between 19000 and 26000 dollars for either a 5.7 or 6.1 then a 5-speed autostick or a 6-speed manual?

Local Television News Featurette

Local car buffs excited about new Dodge 'Challenger'

The above pricing structure was reported as being 'fact' during a local television news featurette about the new Dodge 'Challenger' last night. I had hoped to be posting this article as a news thread, but their story was plagued with several other errors as well. The news reporter obviously didn't bother to do his own homework, but unfortunately, decided to base his story completely on the interviews he did of three classic 70's era 'Challenger' owners at some informal 'classic muscle car' event in Redlands, CA. Unfortunately, these owners' knowledge of their own classic Challengers equaled that of what they knew about the 'Challenger' concept...not much whatsoever. It was a truly poor attempt at producing a news featurette covering such an awe inspiring car...especially, for those of us who are 'in the know'. It's just too bad the author didn't read through our site prior to submitting his article for 'airing', then at least his facts would've been correct.

I went there and left a message request for an Auto and gear train that can handle Drag slicks.

Re: Tell Dodge you want the Challenger in production NOW!!!

Folks:
I don't know about you but **maybe** this thread has some effect! I'm happy to report that about two weeks ago or so, DCX rolled out their Challenger prototype at a nearby Starbucks style coffee shop alongside a 70's vintage ancestorsomewhere in Detroit. It was reported in the Detroit Free Press! Needless to say, the car caused quite a stir. The company said projected production should be around the 2008 timeframe (if memory serves me correct). Man, I would like a crack at a new Challenger! Still looking at the posts! Cal alias "catman351."
