Talking Trans-Am Racing?

According to Speedtv.com, we will see Challengers, Camaros, and Mustangs racing against each other again in 2009. See the following article:

Series Formerly Known As Busch to Pony Up

Posted Sep 15th 2007 9:54PM

or Why NASCAR Is Better Than Other Racing Series ... They keep coming up with new ways to keep it fresh. We don't always like them, but they do keep it interesting.

Sources are telling Speed that the series that will cease to be known as Busch after this season is planning a major change as early as 2009--a switch to Pony cars:
If plans go according to schedule, the next-generation Busch Series cars will be Chevrolet Camaros, Dodge Challengers, Ford Mustangs and an as-yet-to-be named Toyota model, sources said. Ford overhauled the Mustang as a 1960s-retro model in 2005, to positive critical and commercial results. Chevrolet and Dodge will release similarly retro-themed Camaros and Challengers, respectively, by the 2009 model year. The Mustang, Camaro and Challenger all are two-door coupes with rear-wheel drive and available V-8 engines, a hugely popular combination in the halcyon days of 1960s muscle cars.
I imagine the difficulty NASCAR has had in securing sponsorship for the series has inspired them to shake things up. Short of limiting/excluding Nextel Sprint Cup drivers' participation in the series--and what series should prohibit racers from racing?--NASCAR needs to do something to spice up the series. Firing up the manufacturers can't hurt.

Re: Trans-Am Racing?

I have a good idea lets get back to stock cars. My grand marquis belongs out there more then those other cars do! And don't even get me started about that toyota crap! Win on Sunday buy on Monday! It's funny how these frontwheel drive cars end up at the track rearwheel drive! I say we flush the hole nascar thing and start over!

Re: Trans-Am Racing?

Yeah, there was a post about a year ago telling/mentioning about Challengers being made for the Busch Series.... Also, as for taking that Grand Marquis onto the track[racing]....you are kidding ;right ?? Maybe for the Demolition Derby; unless it's all hopped up with a 460ci badboy with dual nitrous turbos !

Re: Trans-Am Racing?

If this happens this will not be Trans Am racing unfortunately. Having worked around Busch series cars quite a bit I can tell you they are far from stock. I think part of the trunk lid was all that came from a factory car.

The ALMS series is pretty strong currently. Personally I don't care much for all the different types of cars running at the same time. It would be cool to see Trans Am type races, maybe ALMS can support them.

I beilieve the TA series died when those folks decided to support the CART series. Open wheel racing is in a sad state in the U.S.

Bring on the door slammers!

Maybe a "Pinks" for pony cars?

what are you...5? go watch youtube and see how a stock grand marquis did on a racetrack. (I thought it was fun to watch.) At least the Grand Marquis is a rear-wheel drive with a V8! And...who would put "nitrous" is a NASCAR race car?!?!?

Re: Trans-Am Racing?

That would be cool as long as the cars remain true to their real world counterparts. None of this Car of Tomorrow crapola. The last ten years NASCAR has gone down the toilet. I still watch but can't hardly stand the idea that these cars are all exactly the same. It might as well be the IROC series.

Ok,Ok here; maybe yours is more powerful like this :

Hey, I've seen lots of 50 year old senior citizens riding around in their suped-up golf carts in their South Florida trailer parks, and going to all their doctor visits, and bridge games, (or whatever it is you old guys play.) LOL ;-)

Have a great night!
