Re: V-6 Turbo?

I love the 6.1, and would love a 6.4, or a V-10, but just look at what BMW has done with the 135 and 335.....6 and Twin Turbo's. Put a DINAN tune on it to keep the warranty, and almost 400 HP and 400 TQ.....mid-high 12's and decent fuel mileage.

Really, considering how few SRT-8's that are going to be available for 08'. I think Chrysler should have equipped them with the V-10 from the Viper. Especially, considering how close in performance the 6.1L Hemi from the SRT-8 is to the stock 5.7L in the R/T. Then I think the $42,000 price would have been justifiable..........

Just think..........

"TOP MODEL" Challenger SRT-10 equipped with Viper V-10. (price low 40's)

"Middle Model" Challenger R/T equipped with standard 5.7L and optional 6.1L (price low 30's)

"Base Model" Challenger SE equipped with standard 3.5L and optional 5.7L* (price low 20's)

*Note: 5.7L Hemi option in base S/E. Could be very much like the LX Mustang. Which, was the base V-6 car with a larger V-8 option! All at affordable price!

Well, that my dream..........

Another example could be a guy in his middle 30's with a wife an a couple of kids. While he loves the looks of the Challenger. Its has to be inexpensive and a daily driver. That said, while he doesn't need a big Hemi V-8 (wife won't let him have it anyways)? He would still like something with alittle more power and something to keep up with the Jones without breaking the bank............

Remember, selling cars is a business! Ford sells way more V-6 Mustangs than V-8's! I believe something like 2/3 are V-6 and 1/3 are GT's? As a matter of fact without the V-6's Car the Mustang would not be viable!
I think you're fooling yourself if you think a turbo-charged 4.0L DOHC V6 will weigh less than a Hemi... DOHC engines are heavier than equivalent displacement pushrods. Now, you have to add in 200-300 lbs of weight for the twin turbos, pipings, and intercooler(s).

Also, for gas mileage... look at the STI, it's a 4-banger turbo but gets the same gas mileage as the Hemis... actually, worse highway mileage in many cases.

Still, I'm not going to disagree about the Phoenix 4.0L being a possible answer for the future. Even naturally aspirated I'd be -shocked- to see this engine putting down anything less than 300HP... for comparison the NA 3.7L Infiniti G37 gets 330 HP. I'd expect something in that neighborhood.

Now, run about 10 psi boost through this and even with a lowered compression ratio to accomodate the turbo and you should be putting out 500 HP at the crank.
