Valet key doesn't work

OK, so a lot of us have experienced the key fob not detected message, or the fob just doesn't work from outside the car. It's happens from time to time but usually only for a few seconds. Today my fob wouldn't work at all for about 2 minutes of me trying. I decided to use the valet key, pop off the start button and use the fob to start the car. No go. Valet key won't unlock my door. Anyone else have this issue? My fob did work after another minute of frustratingly trying, thank God. But now I'm thinking if my battery ever dies I'm royally screwed!

To me it is not a Valet key. It is only an if all else fails you can unlock the door key.
Which by the way does not disable the car alarm when you use it :-(

Wife's fob got out of sync with car, unlock door with key and now you need to remember how to get the alarm to shut off since the fob is not functional at that point...... ....... Just an FYI for you all.

How old's your car? You may need to change your battery on your FOB. I've had to change it on my '09 Challenger in one key, but I also keep the batteries in the glovebox just in case after nearly getting stranded by my old '07 Vette when its FOB battery died. Luckily I had just got a phone with internet service back then because I wouldn't have guessed to check that battery since those things last for 5+ years in everything else but about 2-3 with key FOBs in my experience.

My car is an 09. I've got 3 fobs and I have the same issue with all 3 fobs. It may be battery related because I carry the fob in my pocket with keys, cell phone etc. so I'm sure the buttons are being pressed constantly. The thing it, it starts working again and works for a while before giving me a hard time again. It's the only frustrating thing about this car. My warranty has expired so I'm wary of going to the dealer for the key issue, but I guess I'll have to bite the bullet for peace of mind now. I really hate going to the dealer. I always get the urge to trade up!

You have 3 fobs and all three emergency keys will not open the door?
Are they all cut the same?

Yes, all 3 keys are the same and none will unlock the door. Now I'm wondering if the door was replaced at some point? The carfax was clean when I purchased the car but I guess that doesn't really prove anything except the insurance companies don't know about it.

A lot of owners of newer cars with keyless entry have found that when they have to use a regular key to unlock the door due to a dead battery or dead fob, the key will not work. This is often times due to the lock sticking from lack of use. I shoot a little WD40 in the key hole a few times a year, and work the lock with the key. This may help solve your problems in the future.

The keys turn, all 3 keys. The lock just doesn't unlock. It almost feels like the key is turning too easily. I put new batteries in 2 of the fob's and they are responding much better. I only bought a 2 pack of batteries. Since my car is out of warranty, I'm not going to take it to the dealer for this issue.

The lock must be disconnected from the rest of the mechanism then. You could take the door apart and fix it yourself most likely. I would not want to be in the position of not being able to open the door WHEN the remote system fails.
