Question Are We Holding Lottery Tickets?

I was thinking, buying a Challenger is just strange. We are willing to give a dealer $30+K or $40+K for a car and have to be on pins and needles for months praying that the order goes through and it is built in a reasonable amount of time. When does this happen with any other product?

Is is just me or does this experience seem like buying a lottery ticket where you check the numbers very day hoping for a winner?

Re: Are We Holding Lottery Tickets?

But it is nearly impossible to win a lottery ticket. We all should get our cars even though it will take much longer than any of us like.

Re: Are We Holding Lottery Tickets?

I find it amusing that all of us are willing to dump in upwards of $45k+ (after taxes/etc.) on a car that we will have never seen or sat in. Sure you may have had a chance to see/sit in an '08 SRT, but not many -- and there are no production 6-speeds out yet from my understanding.

What can I say? For myself it's simply that there has never been a reason to get excited about cars until now. The Challenger is something different and very unique to the current market. You see it and you know it's something special. If before the Challenger came out you would've told me I would be spending that much money on a car I haven't test driven or even sat in, I would've laughed in your face.

I can't wait. "C-Day" (Challenger Day) can't come soon enough!

I wholeheartedly agree! I know these cars will be special. My guess is the run will be limited just like they were in the early 70's. One to three years tops.

Sure, I'd like to see Challengers built for 20 years, but think the powerful engines will be short-lived.

Get 'em while you can!

Unhappy Re: Are We Holding Lottery Tickets?

Amen to everyone who posted on this thread. I have to say that yes I really can't wait for my 2009 Challenger R/T but it's been the hardest car I have ever in my 65 yrs to buy. Totally unbelievable what I and probably most of you have gone thru and the wait we still will no doubt experince. I can not reason in my mind what Dodge is thinking when it comes to their SOLD or PRE-ORDERED Challengers as far as the build and delivery polycies??? I honestly was thinking of buying the wife a Dodge Journey but after this I don't think so. There are to many other SUV crossover vehicles that I can get much easier and faster than with Dodge. I hate to be disloyal but Chrysler Corp has not treated it's Loyal customers very well this time. OK off my rant and continuing to wait , Locomotion

Cuda340 - I've been ordering a new car every 2 years for about 25 years. This is normal for any newly released vehicle. If you were into the 2nd year of production and things had normalized then you would place an order and in a few days things would start moving along and in about 5 to 7 weeks you would have your car. It's not just Challengers. I just went through the same thing when I ordered a Sky Redline. All good things are worth waiting for!

Your insight is right on the money. I bought my car never having seen one in person. I was certain I would love it, but a little wary, not being able to get an idea of actual size (or maybe funny, but the presence) of the car. When I got it, I did feel like I had won the lottery. In more ways than one. (My dealer had the name of a guy who that morning had offered him $40,000 over for the car, and offered to give the name to me. I took my car.)
I was overwhemingly happy driving the car around, but at one point, after giving it a good hit on the highway, and enjoying all that this car is, it really struck me that "THIS CAR IS MINE TO KEEP !!", and I was full of goosebumps !!
Like winning the lottery? Yeah !!

Re: Are We Holding Lottery Tickets?

I figured it was time to buy a new vehicle as a daily driver and keep my current vehicle for a project car.

The problem was that there has been nothing on the market Ive been interested in since the last AMC-designed vehicle (the Jeep XJ Cherokee built by Chrysler).

I actually just decided that if I need to buy something Im going to buy something cheap, as theres no point in spending money on a vehicle I dont really want.

So I went to go buy a new Caliber and found that they were making lower end models of the Challenger for 09....finally something else is being made that interests me.
