That would put the target weight for the Challenger @3600-3700 lbs a Mustang Gt is 3550...so it should be handing the 'stang it's ass...especially with the 6-speed...

I would like to see them go with the 392 @ 500hp. Also drop a 3.55 or 3.73 rearend. Or make the rearend from MB where you can change the rear gears yourself without having to change the brains (comp) drastically.

Re: Weight Difference of Dodge Challenger?

Why would you have to change the computer around to account for a different rear-end gear than stock?

Re: Weight Difference of Dodge Challenger?

I'm guessing it'll come in at about 3600-3700lbs with the bigger hemi engine, especially after mentioning of carbon fiber.

From what I understood, the 392 was shown at Sema as a heads up of the engine of choice for the Challenger. Hell, the display was in front of an old Challenger!

I don't know if that would really be an issue, only speculating. I only mentioned that because the comp's in today's cars read input from more and more areas. Even the tranny is read by the onboard comp and with rearend changes (does comp know readend for 'proper' rpm rate of acceleration?) it may/may not affect programmed powerbands/maps. Probably just a flash would do though, if and only if, the change affected optimum 'comp' map performance.

Well, in truth you don't have to. BUT if you like your speedometer/odometer to be correct, and the transmission to shift at the proper RPMs, then you really would want to correct the gear ratio in the computer. Depending how the car is set up, it could also affect ABS and traction control.

I believe that 3,650 lbs was actually the published weight of the average 70's era 'Challenger' according to some Dodge literature I've reviewed...a little heavier for those which came equipped with larger motors. Since newer vehicles tend to incorporate more synthetic materials vs. steel, might it be possible that the new generation 'Challenger' may weigh-in at even less than that figure.
