General Challenger DiscussionThis section contains general discussion about the Dodge Challenger. If it does not fit into a more specific area, it probably belongs in here. (Dodge Challenger General Discussion)
its already been posted that the 8 speed doesnt fit into the Challenger
the 300/Charger was redesigned for 2011 to fit it
i think it was RS that said it wont be in this generation Challenger...
dont you find it odd that the 392 went into the Challenger 1st and the 8 speed is in the Charger/300 1st...why?because it doesnt fit into the challenger
odds are there will BE a 2014 Challenger...since they have a new front end......it has to go somewhere
The production of the 8 speed transmission is at capacity. Chrysler has a license to build them from ZF and are building two plants in the US to build the transmissions. Once they are up and running the 8 speed will be phased into all products. The reason it went into the Charger/300 was those products were all new and production capacity limits allowed them to only put into V6 models of them which allowed Chrysler to advertise both V6 charger and 300 get over 30MPG.

and because it wont fit...that was part of the redesign of the 300/charger for 2011...i believe the chasis was designed slightly for it to fit

Since 2013 was mostly a warm-over: I assume that if the 6.2, or grille mods, or changes in dimension, or 8 speed transmission, or interior updates are part of 2014 ... that information will probably trickle out a little earlier in the year.
Hey it's not as bad as the waiting taking place, on the Nissan Frontier forums. They're still trying to figure out if Nissan will even build 2013 models.

Also, remember what we went through in 2010 with the 2011 MY.
2014 Challenger is "up in the air" they are being tight lipped about it...as to if it stays in it's current form or is discontinued for a make over...
There is a new production platform being developed to facilitate revisions to meet the GOVT CAFE standards in place 35MPG by 2015-16 Fleet average all manufactures...
The Challenger IS CHANGING...to a Barracuda or reworked to meet the standards....
If it lives on it's going on a diet...no 2-ways about it...which means the car will not be the same car...different production platform, and CAFE requirements...
Ralph Giles quote: "going forward Challenger will not become irrelevant" that could mean anything or 2 things... 1) they rework it & it goes on a diet or 2) it's used as a template for another car ie: Cuda/Barracuda/ or pick a name plate...
S.Marchione CEO drives the 392 Challenger as his daily driver he's not happy about messing around with the Challenger his hands are tied...you can read his comments on

The 6.2 supercharged will probably be the 6.1 reworked (my opinion) or the 6.1 technology is used but...the block will be all aluminum (weight savings)----CAFE standards, but that costs big money to develop an entirely new engine from the ground up...(SRT) is a small piece of the big corporate pie....I would be really surprised if they spend BIG money to develop a new engine for such a small amount of production SRT....which is why I think the old 6.1 gets reworked and supercharged... the 392 will be detuned and used as an optional engine on the ram truck and maybe other vehicles... the 392 will still be available in it's current form for the SRT line up as well...for the time being.... OH and all this IS subject to change...we live in a changing economy and world...........................................
No doubt the Challenger/Barracuda who knows what it will be is the NEXT BIG thing coming in the near future...
I'm glad I bought a 2013 SRT Challey now...if it ain't broke don't fixit and the Challenger is damn near a perfect car as it is...
For what its worth, I was talking to my sales guy the other day, him and an associate went to the Chrysler meeting a few weeks back and he learned that upper management tried to negotiate with the Canadians at the Challenger plant and they( the auto workes) gave them a deadline for more money ect. and after 24 hours they( upper management) told them the Challenger will be built in America again, they are closing the plant in 4 years. ???
