What will be the mpg estimates on the challenger?

i'm curious as to the mpg. i really don't want a gas-hog when gas reaches 4.00+ dollars a gallon. what do yall think the mpg would be for a v8 manual or v8 auto/.?

Re: What will be the mpg estimates on the challenger?

I was told on the SRT8 Charger forum that if I had to ask, then the car was not for me. I have now come to realize this. If you think that $4 a gallon gas will prevent you from driving, then you should not be considering the car.

If you do the math, it really does not become that much more expensive if the price goes up but YMMV. Look at the SRT8 stats in the Charger for good ballpark.

Re: What will be the mpg estimates on the challenger?

ya i know but like i'm considering 2 cars for my senior year and they're both in the same price range

a 08 challenger v8 manual

or a 04-05 lotus elise

i don't know which is faster but i'll bet it's the lotus and it gets 23+ mpg in the city.

Re: What will be the mpg estimates on the challenger?

I would assume it would be about what a charger with the same engine would be. I think the 5.7 is arond 26 hwy.

Re: What will be the mpg estimates on the challenger?

I think it's gonna vary alot on whether or not you have an automatic or manual. The six-speed GM F-bodies got mid to upper twenties on the highway because in sixth gear the engine was barely turning.

The LX cars vary quite alot between the 5.7 and 6.1. The 5.7 gets mid to upper twenties and the 6.1 gets mid teens. This is mostly due to a big difference in axle gearing but also due to the cylinder deactivation present in the 5.7 and absent in the 6.1.

6th and 5th gear were basically just overdrive.
2nd gear will get you up to 60mph.

As for the Challenger's mpg........ who cares!
Probably mid 20's.

Ok, well, then by those amounts [$144 x 52 weeks ] it will cost approximately $ 7488 per year for fuel costs alone. On a somewhat un-related note , that yearly figure divided by 2 is just the number that I thought might be the weight of the new Dodge challenger ! Now if DCX could rework the 6.1 Hemi into the hybrid arrangement such as the Dodge Powerbox Concept vehicle utilizes ; I wonder what the fuel cost equation might be?

Yeah I know. That's why I said what I said.

Hey Challenger4-TheWin I hear ya on the mileage thing. I've got a fairly long commute to work myself, my suggestion would be to find a cheap beater high mileage car for commuting and save the Challenger for fun and the occasional trip to work.
