I am thinking about getting the rear resonators chopped off, but before I do I wanted to make sure it won't screw with the active exhaust and throw an engine light. Any help?
No, that won't cause a CEL. It's when people cut out/remove the active exhaust valves that they get CELs, so as long as you don't mess with those then you'll be fine. You may want to think about doing a muffler delete instead, though. The popular resonator delete on the pre-2015 cars isn't the same on the 2015+ 392 and Hellcat because the exhaust is so different. People seem to be much happier doing the muffler delete and leaving the resonators.
I removed my rears and welded in some black cherry bomb glasspacks like I ran on my viper trucks, sounds great just has a little drone before it warms up when you first crank it
So I am confused. I have a 2016 SP, which are the mufflers and which are the resonators ? Which should I delete, the mids or rears ? Thanks guys. Sounds like most guys delete the mids.
On Challenger, mufflers are always in the middle and resonators in the rear. Other cars may be different so always point to what you want done or removed at the muffler shop, don't ever just tell them delete this or that as often they will not do what you want. And whatever they remove make sure you get it back in case you want to put it back. Most guys it seems delete the mufflers under the car and leave the resonators, this will increase sound without increasing drone much or at all.
I have also done the mid muffler delete and love it. > Several friends who had Cats said they liked their exhaust and would not change anything. Well after hearing mine both of them immediately got the mid muffler delete.
I have found on the SRT I had, that removing the resonators creates a bad drone inside the car.
In this video, the drivers side had the muffler delete and passenger side was still stock. Thought this would help better to tell the difference.
The beauty of this system is, it's cheap, sounds fantastic and fully reversible just as cheaply if you don't like it.

Bob I'm doing the mid delete this Friday to my cat. Is there a lot more drone in the car? Is it a lot louder in the cab under normal driving conditions? I'm looking forward to trying it out but I'm not so sure my wife will be as enthusiastic as I. I love the stock sound but just looking for... More. I'm M6 if that makes a difference. Thanks!
I deleted my mids and its a difference for sure. Just a tad too loud at cold start up and leaving stop signs or lights but highway speeds are the same. Its nasty at wot so be careful playing as you will wake the dead and get the cops attention quickly.
Rather than start another mid muffler/resonator delete thread I thought I'd add to this one. My new to me 2016 Hellcat (6K miles) sounds awesome but I knew something about the exhaust or tune was different than the two other cars I test drove at dealerships. I put my car up on my lift yesterday and discovered the mid muffler/resonators on my car have been removed (pictures attached). The links in this thread helped educate me that the M6 has more of a glass pack bullet style muffler vs the A8 which has a conventional offset muffler. I LOVE the sound at start up and acceleration but at 80 Mph cruising speed I find the drone to get a bit annoying on long 2+ hour drives. Am considering dynamat in the trunk as a first attack to dampen the drone or adding some sort of bullet back in if anyone has suggestions.
On a slightly different topic can anyone explain to me how the active exhaust works. I see there is a computer controlled valve in both exhaust pipes for but can't figure out how it could work. I have had other Italian sports cars where the valve would drive the exhaust through the muffler below 3K rpm and open to be straight pipe out above 3K. But there from the valves back to the end of the car would be two sets of pipes for four outlets. In our cars there is only two outlets so I can't imagine how the valve could close without choking off the flow. I doubt the valve is a butterfly but can't figure out what IT is....can anyone enlighten me?
You should track down some 2.75" piping and search out a shop with a mandrel bender and have that exhaust work redone. It probably has very little or any effect on performance, but those crush bends just don't look right on a car that sweet, and that looks like 3" piping too.
I debated leaving this comment because of course it's none of my f'in business..just have too much spare time right now or something LOL
I am thinking of going with my old favorites the Aero Turbine mufflers. I have these on my R/T and my Ram 1500. I will of course delete the resonators and leave in the electronic valves. The Aero's are very loud and are the most efficient mufflers on the market for performance gains. Plus I will convert to a true dual by removing the stupid X pipe. I may replace it with an H pipe.
