Are you able to pre-order a Challenger (leave a deposit) anywhere?

Has anyone put a deposit down? If so, how much and exactly how does the process work? Does it ensure you get to order the vehicle the way you want or does it just ensure you will get one of the first delivered to the dealer?

Re: Deposit?

My dealer won't take a depost yet, although he assures me I am first on the list to order one. I doubt many dealers will take a depost at this point, seeing as there is no concrete ordering information available yet. Doesn't hurt to ask, though.

Re: Deposit?

i talked to the dealers closest to me and told them i talked to their competitiors within 20 miles. First one that can provide a accurate date or price on the challenger black on black with a biggest v8 under 30g's will get my deposit.

I also told them i want in the paperwork that they do with the deposit that it is 100% refundable and that i can change my mind at any time and just walk in or call them and request my money back.

^^^Make sure you include the last part or you're gonna get screwed if they deliver and you don't like the car.

Isn't that called 'Price Gauging' ? Of course this seems to be the ' New American Way' .. truth, justice. ....Let's see ;How much will insurance be about $ 1500 to 2000 ? UMmmmmm ok fuel costs of say..$5000...unless the Challenger is just for tooling around on the weekends // or just sitting in the garage listening to tunes !!! Seems like $55,000 would cover this for a year or so !!!!!!!!!

Re: Deposit?

There are a number of dealers who claim they don't charge markups. Do some searching around and be prepared to drive.. a long distance to pick up your baby and bring her home. If my local dodge dealer tells me there will be a mandatory 10k markup I'll tell them to get bent and buy a $400 plane ticket instead... pull a little Kowalski of my own... though hopefully I'll meet a better fate than he did.

Re: Deposit?

I as well called the Dealer I bought my 99 Viper ACR from, I am in FL, they are in NJ, they were not ready to take any $$$ until the details came in. I sold cars for years, and I would outright tell any Desk Manager that "I would rather wait to be last in line then get ripped off so I can be first in line". GM said to me to be patient and we will have one for you, refundable deposit if you do not want it. I have been researching and preparing myself now, when it comes down to the time, like my Viper I can drive away feeling good. Some people mentioned insurance...My idea is to file for Collector or Specialty car insurance, limits your driving but in FL on I-95 some idiot might hit it staring while driving to work.

Re: Deposit?

Yeah, and here's another subject or item to ponder : a friend of my brother's husband works at a Ford plant ..told him that Ford is making $15,000 on every Ford Explorer ; which I believe is retailing for around $30,000 or so :aren't they ? Does anyone really know what the profit figure is say ..for the Chargers ?

Re: Deposit?

A refundable deposit is the only way to go. For the dealers that add a premium over msrp remember that it is easy to find a dealer that will go lower. $10,000 buys a plane ticket to anywhere to pick up a car and drive it home.
