Looks like it was a combo of speed and the car slowing down more than expected in front of him.

Looks like the throttle suck wide open because even if he was the only car on the track he was going about 50mph too fast to make that turn.

Telemetry in the video showed he was on the brake. Looked to me like he just miss-judged the corner and was just going way too fast. He was braking wayyyyyy too late to make the corner.

I think it would be handy in a wreck like this to have a parachute that could be released once a driver realized a wreck is about to occurr.
The height and length of this accident is extraordinary.
