Re: Artwork - 2008 Challenger Shaker photoshop

The Pic of the Challenger with a shaker looks awsome! As soon as I get mine, I'm installing one on it immediately! That old school shaker is already available on the new Chargers and Magnums. There is a lot of talk about it on the LX and Charger forums. I'm sure it will be available for the Challenger right away since most of the engineering has already been done on the other LX cars.

Could we get a link, Mike??

The shakers i'd seen before for LXs didn't look right,
but these are great.

Re: Artwork - 2008 Challenger Shaker photoshop

I used to own a 1971 340 Cuda with a shaker hood.

The shaker hood was standard in the 1970 & 1971 426 Hemi Cuda and Challenger. Incredibly, it was only a $97 option on 340s, 383s, and 440s. (This equates to 2.2% of the $4,000 purchase price. If you use this same percentage with a $40,000 SRT, it would be an $880 option).

I don't know why many Cuda and Challenger owners didn't opt for it. The scoop had the optimum square inch intake area and was good for 5-10 hp on the top end.

For the trivia minded the official abbreviation was the "ieqcag". It stood for the Incredible Exposed Quivering Cold Air Grabber.

I will definitely order a shaker if it is available on the 2008 Challenger!

The Shaker is an awesome hood, but your not going to get that much functionality out of it. A real functional scoop need to be at least 5 to 8 inched higher than the hood to get any real air. Case in point,

This is actually a very good picture for comparison sake. '71 Challenger running the forward facing scoop(5 - 8 inches high...), while the Camaro is pulling air from the windshield/cowl area.. Both very effective, but hey, Its a Challenger and it kicks ass...
With that being said, I want my 09 Triple black Challenger running the Shaker!!!!

Re: Artwork - 2008 Challenger Shaker photoshop

I owned a 1971 'Cuda with a shaker. It was the only cold air system offered. The stock hoods (except the ones on the 340 AAR 'Cuda and the Challenger T/A) were nonfunctional, unlike the scoops on the 2008 Challenger concept car.

The opening of the shaker hood scoop had the optimum amount of square inch area. The cold air ram effect was good for 5 mph on the top end (for street cars).

I agree, however, that a further increase in power could have been obtained with a bigger (higher) hood scoop in cars with more sophisticated intakes that could use the extra air (i.e., cars set up exclusively for drag racing, like the SS Challenger that debuted at the SEMA show).

I want to see the new Challenger with a shaker option.

Guys, it was an awesome exerience to be sitting at a red light and watching the other driver along side of you being hypnotized by the i.e.q.c.a.g. (Plymouth initials for the shaker- the "incredible exposed quivering cold air grabber").
