My 2012 Challenger R/T Classic 6M Super Track Pak has hit 20 K miles and the front brake rotors are warped.
I really do not want to surface the OEM rotors as they will just warp again, and the thought of buying new OEM brake rotors just to have them warp again does not appeal to me. I am not interested in any Brembo or Wilwood type aftermarket or drilled/slotted brake kits.
I am looking for high quality front brake rotors that are not drilled or slotted that hopefully will do better than 20k miles before they simulate a potato chip. I found this front brake rotor/pad kit on the NAPA website, Has anyone here used this kit, and if so how are the rotors holding up and how is the stopping power of this kit? Please see link below
I would highly check out brake performance. They have a great set of dimpled and slotted rotors and free brake pads if you choose to use them all for under $400 bucks with free shipping.

That set has a life time warranty against warping. There good I have had them on my car for 6 years and no warping. If they do warp they will replace them for free. http://brakeperformance.com/brake-rotors/Premium-Dimpled-and-Slotted-Brake-Rotors.php Make sure you get the dimpled and slotted they are the only ones with the life time warranty against warping.
These are not drilled. So you don't want some thing that will not warp you just want what?. READ THE RECOMMENDATION BEFORE YOU SAY YOU DONT WANT THEM WHY DO YOU ASK FOR ADVICE ON WHAT TO PUCHASE IF YOUR NOT GOING TO LISTEN.
Rotors aren't likely to be warped anyway, uneven material transfer is the likely cause. If you have someplace where you can properly re-bed the brakes then the problem should go away.
I had the same "problem" at 20k miles. I hit the track and after a day of doing laps and hard braking the brake judder was gone.
For the last 10 years I have used Wagner thermoquiet ceramic pads and rotors on three different cars. They produce virtually no brake dust and I have not had any issues with the rotors warping. The pads are much cheaper on rock auto but the weight of the rotors makes them cheaper to buy at local parts store. JMO.
Hi all,
Last weekend I installed the NAPA Severe Duty front brake rotors and pad kit. The kit is made in Brazil. The rotors do not look like anything special, in fact they appear to be poorer in quality than the OEM rotors, as the NAPA rotors do not appear to be balanced. That being said each NAPA rotor was about 1.2 lbs heavier than the OEM rotors as measured on my bathroom scale so it seams that the NAPA rotors may be casted out of a denser type of material.
The NAPA pads are metallic, and I believe the OEM pads are supposed to be ceramic for STP cars such as mine, although the OEM pads looked to be the same type of material as the NAPA pads.
The kit was installed properly and all fasteners were torqued to specs, the caliper slides were moving freely prior to the installation of the kit and were disassembled, cleaned and lubricated appropriately. For those that wonder, I am a wheel lug nut torque freak, and the wheel lug nuts were torqued to specs (and rechecked frequently) since the vehicle was new. I do not track or race my car, it is used as a daily driver only.
The OEM rotors were warped significantly and were machined, rust proofed and put into storage. The OEM pads still had about 80% material remaining.
After bedding the pads in, the stopping power is significantly better than the OEM brakes with the warped rotors and may be better than the OEM brakes when they were new and the rotors unwarped. I have driven approximately 500 miles since last weekend and the stopping power is quite good, I do not notice any vibration from the unbalanced rotors at freeway speeds and brake dust is no more than OEM, there is also no unusual noises from the brake kit, either hot or cold.
Only time and mileage will tell if this kit is a improvement over the OEM rotors and pads, so far so good.
I just bought some dimpled and slotted rotors from brake performance. I haven't heard anything on there product. How many of you used there products and if possible any issues?
My only real complaint is that the Bluestuff NDX pads don't like being daily-driver pads, I never had an opportunity to really bed them in at the track so as a result I had uneven material on the rotors which resulted in brake pulsation under light braking, no pulsation under heavy braking. The rotors, being dimpled and slotted, do make a buzzing/whirring noise on the freeway (heard with the windows down) and do buzz slightly under heavy braking. Not annoying, just something to get used to.
my 2 cents...
Power stop brakes for RT.
I got pads and drilled and slotted rotors for ~$400, all 4 and they were awesome!
I beat the hell out of them on my 2011.
Cant wait until the OEM crap wears out...
Here is a update. I have about 7,000 miles on the NAPA front brake rotors and pads. No warpage evident yet when braking hard. Stopping power remains good. Brake dust is negligible.
No brake squeak or any unusual noises evident.
The OEM rotors did not show any evidence of warpage until they had approximately 15,000 miles on them.
I do not track, or street race my vehicle and it is used as a daily commuter. So far, so good.
Your not going to believe this...I have a bit over 36k miles...I found the spec on the rotors.
Just went out an measured all of them with digital calipers three times....the freaking rotors have basically zilch wear... the original specs. 1.11 and I have 1.10 and 1.04 is the minimum for replacement.
The rears are dead on......so I'm going to replace the only the pads. I found that Akebono is the original Dodge pad supplier....and I have used these for years on my other cars...they are superb ceramic pads...the also make the Brembro brand.
Not to question your capabilities but what type of caliper did you use to measure?
It's just that I have seen people use the wrong type and end up with an incorrect measutment.
The same type I used in Porsche's and BMW's for 42 years to spec the rotors before installing them. Funny one of the SRT Techs at the dealer noted the OEM rotors will run two sets of pads before replacement if no warping.
I put on the brake performance slotted and dimpled rotors with the heavy duty metallic pads and have had no problems at all. I get the swooshing when braking but that is about it. Sounds like the NAPA rotors work well too. I got the semi metallic pads because everything I have read tells me the ceramic pads give less dust but at the expense of some stopping power. I figured with a life time warranty against warping why not go with the more aggressive pad...
I changed out to slotted and dimpled myself and after I heard from my local buds in the business that it wasn't going to make any difference blah, blah, blah, The price for them with Akebono Ceramics was a tad lower....and the results are superb on my car. The heavier rotors adding to the un-sprung weight and overall performance of the brakes is quite impressive......I'll never use anything else on this car...both dry and wet braking is so much more improved.
All you guys seem to know brakes pretty well. Sorry to hijack, but any idea what would be causing break squeal? My 2014 rt started doing it bad at 7000 and deal said all is fine. I gave up on it and had ebc slotted rotors and red stuff installed, and all was fine for 800 miles, then the squeal came back. Car sounds like a train coming into a station most days.
Most likely its the vibration from the caliper piston on the rear of the pad itself. I used the red spray, forget what its brand name is, but its the stuff that you spray on the rear of the pad shim that are on the Akebono's.....I sprayed and let it set up for days out of the box on cardboard.
You may also want to loosen your lug nuts and use a torque wrench and re-set the lugs on all your wheels, as the rotors are held in place by the lug nuts themselves. If your tighter on some and not as much on others then you stand a chance of the rotors not being centered to the hub.
My rotors work just fine w/o the problems you are experiencing....but your brand of pads are notorious for squealing....it's been a problem for many users...so I would start from there. The Akebono's are the best Ceramic Pad made, I have used them for decades now......if your pads are not ceramic, therein lies your problem. Good luck.
