Word around here is that the Camaro will have 420 hp LS3, and a 505 hp LS8.

And will only weight 3600 lbs. Soooo, unless the challenger manages to shed some real pounds, its not going to be in the same league as the camaro. Let alone a 500 hp GTO in the future.
Don't you start talking about Pory the Pig (Challenger). There are those who get real upset about that. Their first idea about a solution to the weight is "Just give it more horsepower". Instead of fixing the real problem...... A 3600 lb car with 500hp will always kick the snot out of a 4100 lb car with 500hp! End of story!

New Grand Prix - V8 6.0L

Discussed in current Motor Trend. Could very well make production. Ah, it is a great time to be a car guy and have the $ to buy one!

Re: 2009 GTO, Let the Muscle car wars begin!

Wow... I'm not a fan of GM's current design styles... But that new GP actually looks good... It looks like they took the design of the 2000 - 05 Impalas, and gave it a Pontiac badge... Which is a good thing, since the new 06 Impala is FUGLY... Looks like a freakin Accord...

Re: 2009 GTO, Let the Muscle car wars begin!

Well here we go again with another muscle car to market. This time its a rebadged Holden VE Commodore SS that debutes as the new 2007 Chevy Lumina SS. It has the same 6.0L GTO under pinnings.

I can't help think that this is all taking a bite out of the Challenger market in some fashion or another. I don't know why Chrysler is taking it's sweet time. Just read yesterday that DCX is cutting production at some of their plants. Isn't plant space what was holding up production of the Challenger to begin with?

Re: 2009 GTO, Let the Muscle car wars begin!

When will this madness end? (probably when people start seeing their insurance bills & gas credit card bills) Now there is news that the Mustang GT base HP will be upped:
The current GT's 4.6-liter V8 will likely grow in displacement and power as well, ending up anywhere in the 350- to 400-hp range. It will need the extra horses underhood in order to keep up with the competition arriving from Dodge and Chevy.

With the size of the Mustang, that will make it a serious contender on speed...

Re: 2009 GTO, Let the Muscle car wars begin!

I am patiently waiting for the day when I'm on the Parkway at this one particular 4 lane stop light.. I want myself to be in the Left lane, a GT500 in the next lane, a new Camaro one over from him, and then have a GTO in the right lane.. light goes green.. GT500 falls back, me and the two 'new f bodys' are going head to head.. oh boy.. it's gonna be a whole new ball game!!

It's like the muscle car wars of 1970 all over again. Kinda makes one giddy if you love these cars but were not old enough to drive at the time.

One site I found really interesting. It has a picture of the 1999 GTO Concept. The body sure looks alot like the new 09 Camaro.

I've noticed this thread title for awhile but hadn't read any, partly since I'm obsessed and/ or addicted to the 2006 Dodge Challenger concept and other 'old Mopars ! I just did look at this story and picture. I agree : looks very similar to the Camaro Concept. I'm thinking," If they [Pontiac] want to make a new or a model spinoff at least by those looks,it would be more appropriate to call it the 2008-9 Firebird or at least Firehawk" ! The GTO always had a different "mold" than the Camaro/Firebird ! These days I just don't get what a lot of these Corporate Motorheads are thinking __ I guess my point is : They aren't ....cept for the Dodge Boys in regard to the new Challenger program !
