Talking Armwrestling

I wish this sport was more popular, but it's one of the most exciting I've ever learned about. John Brzenk is touted as the best armwrestler of all time, from America. He played a role in the movie "Over The Top", which brought the sport out of it's own shadows.

Devon Larratt is currently from Canada is currently at the top amongst all North American arm wrestlers. He keeps making excuses not to go to Russia to fight the BIG DOGS of arm wrestling, and with good reason. Here the two top armwrestlers in Europe.

Denis Cyplenkov who is a former Strongman, and is no doubt the most powerful left handed arm wrestler. This guy is massive to say the least. He dominates in right handed as well, but has lost a few times. Here's a video of him:

Alexey Voevoda dominated the world in 2004. He even beat the best arm wrestler ever, John Brzenk. He is a world class athlete, and retired from arm wrestling in 2005 or 2006, I believe. He has won three gold metals in the Olympics for bob sledding. Arm wrestling fans are desperately waiting for him to return to the arm sport because of his strength, dominance, and incredible control in his techniques. He teaches the sport, and is very good friends with Cyplenkov.

I hope you enjoy the videos, there are tons more on youtube if you're interested in the sport.

Yeah, these guys are considered super heavy weight arm wrestlers and are massive. I know that Denis Cyplenkov suffers from acromegaly, which is syndrome in which the anterior pituitary gland produces excessive product of growth hormone. His brow, his massive hands, and general massive bones & muscles indicate that is the case. Steroids would NOT cause your frame to get thicker, all that would do is increase recovery time. To be honest, though I wouldn't doubt if Denis did juice at some point. He is a former Strongman, and most all those guys dabbles in that.

I believe Voevoda is a freak of nature in his strength, and don't think he uses any drugs. He is made for the sport, and has tremendous levels of dedication and natural ability and strength.

To be honest, there are some great American armwrestlers too. Here is a clip of the greatest of all time, John Brzenk:

i used to take great pride in my forearms when i was in high school and the Marines - i used to do all of those excercises and then some back in the day.

always been a baseball player and my coach was always big on hand and forearm strength - he's the one that got me doing it.

i'll spare you my high school arm wrestling stories though - lets just say i was hooked and always looking for someone to arm wrestle on the desks HAHAHA !!!!

love it - but if you don't know what you're doing, you can really tear yourself up......

May I indulge ya'll for a bit and sound my own horn please? At my age memories are thick as is the waistline. But, I can boast that I've been beaten only once left arm and only once right arm.
So, one might ask, "when was the last time you arm wrestled big guy?" To which I respond, "uhhhh...1983 sir."
Go get your slippers gramps.

I respect the old timers too. I don't know if you know names like Richard Lupkes, and Ron Bath. But these are men in their 50s and still compete very well with guys half their age. You should do a you tube search of Richard Lupkes. 54 year old super heavy weight, built like a s h i t brick house.

Got me athinkin' now. Me thinks I better get off my lazy ass and go workout. And then rummage through my stack of Sly Stallone movies for one that I haven't watched more than twelve times.

For anyone that has not seen it, "Pulling John" is an excellent movie about arm wrestling.
