Yep this is idiocy...Young man (Air Force veteran to boot) foiled the robbery and potentially saved his managers life and he gets...FIRED!

I'm not so sure I would have let the criminal get away after having a gun pulled on me. It's very unfortunate for the vet, the criminal is lucky to be alive.

I am sure the business has very strict guidelines on what to do in this situation. If the person would of went back in and everyone in the store was killed, this would be a whole nother conversation. in my opinion he did what was right but it could of ended very different

If he did go back in and everyone was killed. Its still not his fault!! He was not the guy waving a gun robbing the place nor the person who could have pulled the trigger. What he did was react to a situation. Like he was once trained to do. Cudos for him. This makes me not want to shop at autozone ever again. BullS**t

yep I contacted autozone and informed them I would take my business elsewhere

I agree...piss on auto zone. I e-mailed them my "thoughts".

Hope the kid doesn't get in any trouble. Interesting that when she asked if he was allowed to be carrying the gun, he hesitated, then said, "it's registered to me". Doesn't mean he has a license to carry it.

I'd hire him in a second, AND let him carry his gun into work!

The problem is the liability laws in this country, the companies see these situations and see the potential for multimillion dollar judgements against them if anything were to go wrong vs. the low chance to a judgement against them if some armed robber were to kill people in the store if an employee did nothing.

Every large business has rules against an employee inserting him/herself into any kind of dangerous situation. His heart was in the right place but he broke a basic rule. Autozone made the only decision they could to keep others from doing the same. This could have gone horribly wrong. One can only hope that someone will read this story and offer this fine young man a better job somewhere else.
