Buried 1957 Plymouth Belvedere

Many of you already know about the buried 1957 Plymouth Belvedere that will be exhumed June 16, 2007. You talk about a big media event, this is will be it. I'm sure the big shots from Chrysler will be there, and the Speed Channel, and of course cable news.

For those of you that want to take a look, the first link explains what went on 49 years ago (the counter is one month off BTW), and the second link is a video of the day that shows how and what they buried. This will be fun.

Re: Buried 1957 Plymouth Belvedere

Hey Chuck-- How the heck did you hear about this 'caper' ?? quite interesting, but now I have to wait a whole year to pique the finale !!! I'm going to have to ask a Pro Golfer I caddied for who lives in Tulsa..see if he knows about it. Heay I wonder if anyone has ever buried a 1970-71 Dodge Challenger.....nice to see one in like showroom condition,,,new car smell !!! In Fact ,I 'm now wondering if this might be an opportunity for DCX to Relaunch a 50 Year Anniversery Edition and restart the Plymouth division ..with the 2007 Plymouth Belvidere....followed of course with a 2008 Plymouth 'Cuda 440 SRT ? ?

Ragamuffin- I've know about it for a while. It was posted somewhere.....I don't remember where now. I thought that because we are coming to the one year mark, people would have some interest in this event. I know I do.

As far as reviving Plymouth at the event, it did cross my mind. Knowing how much car companies crave publicity, I'm sure Chrysler will have something up their sleeve.

Speaking of Plymouth, one thing that I've learned since reading the car forums is the Plymouth people seem to be really hard core in their loyality. I never paid too much attention to Plymouths in the past, but I must admit they did have some beautiful designs. I REALLY like the '71 'Cuda.

Re: Buried 1957 Plymouth Belvedere

Hey ChuckyG BREAKING NEWS - The buried 1957 Plymouth Belvedere has been UNEARTHED !!! Some of you may remember this thread ,maybe even heard about it on today's news [or yesterday's] ;I'm a little saddened by what I've heard !! ! I'll give just a hint , the 'overall topping' is very close to the color of the 1st animated character in this post !! The picture will reveal the consequences !! http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070615/...ried_belvedere There is a video on this link's page !! ' "Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you Miss Belvedere," said event organizer Sharon King Davis, a fourth-generation Tulsan whose grandfather helped bury the Plymouth.'
Oh my goodness !

Re: Buried 1957 Plymouth Belvedere

Ragamuffin- Judging from the pictures when they dig the car up, it looked to me like they didn't seal the top of the vault. Now how hard could that have been?...even back 50 years ago. Oh well.

The sad thing here is that I made the original post a year ago and we're still waiting for our cars to be built. Not only that but there has been so little info about the Challenger coming from Chrysler. I guess they're trying to get the sale done.

That leaves the question will the sale be a good or bad thing for the Challenger? Maybe it won't matter at all. I'm hoping it will be a good thing. One of the areas where Chrysler has fallen is in their interiors. I certainly don't want all those cheap interior materials going into the Challenger.

We should find out in a couple of months. I hope.

Re: Buried 1957 Plymouth Belvedere

ChuckyG--Yep, I'd somewhat forgotten about this until I happened to have TV on and a news channel [which seems to be most of time ] and heard this..that it was all rusty, ruined and mucked up !! Yeah,,even for in '57 you'd think it would have been sealed for perfection ;even triple sump-pumped equipped !! How sad...it would have been so incredible to see it in pristine condition just like the one in the slideshow on one of the links :now about the best thing would be to crush it and donate it to the nearest open hearth !! A 1957 Plymouth Belvedere, the same model as the one buried under the city's courthouse lawn 50 years ago, is on display in Tulsa, Okla., Friday, June 15, 2007. (AP Photo)
