Camaro Price

My buddy (a Camaro worshiper) just called me up, he said the top of the line optioned out bad boy Camaro is to be priced at $33k. He said the dealers can not go over that price (he snickered at the "tall R/T price tag"). Now, I no nothing about the New Camaro, and I dont really care as I dont want one and have no interest in them. The only reason I wonder about it is how it will effect Dodge sales. I mean isnt the optioned out R/T Challenger going to run about $38k? Anyone have info or input on this?

Re: Camaro Price

Hmm... I would be curious to know where your buddy found this out... If that does end up being the price then damn... The Camaro will be one hell of a bang for your buck.

Re: Camaro Price

I think your buddy is smoking crack. GM can no more tell their dealers how much they can charge for the camaro than Dodge can tell their dealers what they can charge for the Challenger (it's that anti-trust thing). The only thing GM can do to control prices is to flood the market with cars. Also, I find it hard to believe that a maxed out SS with a 400hp V8, 6spd, brembo brakes, etc. is only going to be $33k. A maxed out V6 Malibu LTZ is $28.9k.

Re: Camaro Price

My buddy told me it has come down from GM that if you are a "franchised" dealer and you price over MSRP you will be in trouble....It sounds like a bunch of crap to me to...But I will say this, another friend of mine was over to the house the other day, he is general manager at a Chevy dealership and he did tell me that he CAN NOT sell for over MSRP. He would not say why. I myself have no idea about any of it, Im just passing on what Im told. I did see Motor Trend has Camaro Pricing and it says Base, $22,000-$33,000 (est)....but base means base right? not $33,000 optioned out?

Re: Camaro Price

If you read into it you can see the GM Jerk Factor starts at the top and trickels down. Al Oppenheiser sure dosnt mind slaming everything but GM, but then thats typical of GM.

Re: Camaro Price

...but is the price difference enough to make you drive an ugly car?

Re: Camaro Price

IF GM's "anti-gouging" rule actually IS true (I doubt it is, but anything's possible), it must be a recent thing. I remember the GTO getting MANY "adjusted market values" (until they realized they weren't selling, then they went away real quick). And remember the SSR pickup? I remember seeing some for a cool $20,000 over sticker when they were new.

Actually I hope the SS Camaro is that cheap. That way Dodge will HAVE to seriously dicker on the R/Ts and SRT8s - they won't have any choice, otherwise the car's gonna tank, and tank HUGE.
