Whoah....
Canadian province claims power to seize, destroy modified cars http://www.leftlanenews.com/canadian-province-claims-power-to-seize-destroy-modified-cars.html Police in Canada's most populous province have the right to seize and destroy any car that has been modified for street racing, Ontario's top prosecutor claims. “If we can establish someone has parts and they're juicing up their car — obviously for the purpose of street racing — then we can seize those vehicles,” Ontario Attorney General Michael Bryant said Wednesday, according to the Canadian Press.“We will seize it and you will never see it again. We will crush your we will crush the parts.” “We don't need to wait until that car hits the road fully loaded,” he said, adding that modified cars are as dangerous as explosives, capable of causing catastrophic damage.Bryant's comments on modified cars seem to suggest Ontario's liberal government is exempt from the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, which states: "Everyone has the right to be secure against unreasonable search or seizure." It's not known if Bryant's latest comments are an accurate reflection of Canadian or Ontario law, or if police will use this apparent power, but it's clear Ontario's police are getting tired of dangerous driving. “There is no excuse for street racing and aggressive driving, such as the high speeds and unsafe lane changes we have seen recently,” Ontario Provincial Police Commissioner Julian Fantino said in a recent press release.

Re: Canadian province claims power to seize, destroy modified cars
That's not to say that they can't take your ride in the US either. But the above article makes it sound like they take it if your even modify it
http://www.suburbanchicagonews.com/b...PER_S1.article PLAINFIELD, IL, USA -- Patrol Officer Mario Marzetta was about finished running radar on Essington Road when the catch of the day flew by. He heard it before he saw it -- the engine of a 2000 Dodge Viper revving high before the car blew by him at 127 mph in a 35 mph zone. The driver was eventually charged with felony fleeing and eluding police, while his car became the property of the Plainfield Police Department. Now the shiny black Viper with a cognac leather interior has a fresh-paint detail and is outfitted with lights, ready to serve as the department's new D.A.R.E. car. The car's custom paint job features an airbrushed American flag design on the hood. The D.A.R.E. car will be taken to community events, block parties, parades and schools. The arrest was made on an afternoon in March 2006. Marzetta chased the thrill rider north from 135th to 127th Street, where the Viper swerved in and out of traffic before trying to hide in a parking lot. As the driver, a Naperville resident, was being fingerprinted -- unaware he was losing his luxury ride -- he asked Marzetta if the car could be stored indoors to shelter it from the elements. The vehicle has 17,000 miles on it and is in like-new condition. When Marzetta dropped the man off at the county jail, he "thanked" him for the car. Vehicles involved in the commission of a felony can be seized, said Community Service Officer Mark Siegel. The department has a lot full of seized vehicles, most of which aren't worth much and are sold at auction, he said. "It's very safe to say that this is the only seized Viper out there that's a D.A.R.E. car," Siegel said. "It's a once-in-a-lifetime car." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This guy was going WAY fast but... Take the Car and Keep it? Seems wrong to me. No Drugs, Robbery or anything... just really stupid speeding. Hmmm.... Not sure what to think

I wish the cops in the US were like the cops in Japan where if the clock you at 180 or so Kmh then they won't even bother chasing you since they don't have a fast enough car to even think about catching you since there cars are only stock. Thats why I love living in Japan.....

Back to the original Canadian article: It sounds like they are saying they can take your car just by seeing that it is modified, not even anything to do with breaking a law. Now that is just scary. So if you modify your car then it is "Juiced Up" and can be taken? What about some factory sports cars that are already even faster? How is that different... this is a mess for sure.

Re: Canadian province claims power to seize, destroy modified cars
I sure as hell that the car this guy drives as well as others like him (finacially well off, celebs, and/or, athletes) get their cars crushed too! This crap almost smells of "classism" (if that's an actual word), did you notice all the cars crushed were "Tuner" type cars owned by low income, sub 25 y/o males (who also just so happen to be Asian and Hispanic in the case of the two mentioned.) I want to know if any domestics, high end imports, exotics owned by all age groups are going to be affected by this and where the hell is SEMA at in this and the Canadian cases.
