Dallas HOA prohibits parking F-150 in driveway;

The story is sad but true.... I actually live in Frisco (the town this occurred in) and completely understand how this could happen. (Some HOA are dictated by Nazi type people) The problem is, sometimes you get wackos at the top with to much power and this is what happens. Luckily, I don't live in this neighborhood. They might ban my car!

Dallas HOA prohibits parking F-150 in driveway; Lincoln Mark LT allowed

Yet another example of a Homeowner's Association run amok... A Texas homeowner in Frisco (just north of Dallas) has been told by the Stonebriar HOA that his new Ford F-150 isn't allowed to be parked in his driveway. The Association, established to protect Jim Greenwood's interests (that's the theory at least), will allow his neighbor's Cadillac Escalades, Honda Ridgelines, and even a HUMMER or two, but his new pickup violates a rule that prohibits pickups in the driveway. When Mr. Greenwood inquired as to why a Lincoln Mark LT could park in the neighborhood, but his practically identical F-150 couldn't, the response from the HOA was, "'It's our belief that Lincoln markets to a different class of people." Doh! As of now, Mr. Greenwood's options are to get another vehicle, or move. If it were us, we'd replace the F-150 with a yellow Caterpillar 972H Wheel Loader. Yeah, that would get them to quickly change their mind... Thanks for the tip, Neil!
Somewhere on the Dallas news website there was some reported comment made to the wife that if they didn't like the rules, they could always move!

There are some issues with this in the DC suburbs too. Carpenters and plumbers can't drive their work trucks home, etc.

Re: Dallas HOA prohibits parking F-150 in driveway;

My Dad owns a big-rig. As if he doesn't have enough problems with fuel prices, the neighbors complained he was parking it in the drive way (Well away from the road and obscured by trees). The police came and gave him a ticket. Now he has to pay to rent a parking place from the local Grocery store 5 miles away and either call a taxi or bum a ride to get home. To top it off, one time, after being parked for less than 3 days, someone stole 4 wheels off of it. And across the street is a POLICE STATION! AND this is not an upscale neighbor hood we are talking about either.

If you're smart enough to live in a HOA controlled neighborhood, then ya deserve it.

While I understand a restriction on commercial vehicles, a different class of "people" smacks of snobbery.

Re: Dallas HOA prohibits parking F-150 in driveway;

Existence of an HOA isn't necessarily the operative factor. Municipalities can regulate certain vehicles as "aesthetic nuisances" (i.e. eyesores) or based on their gross weight via the use of ordinances. I believe that's what's been happening in northern VA and MD.

Where I am from in the Massachusetts/Rhode Island area we have a lot of things wrong but I am glad that we don't have many homeowner's associations.
