The Charger would sell regardless of its name. A 340 or 425 HP sedan? Its handling/ride. Add its looks... then, its intended price? Come on.

Sorta fast.
Good handling.
Heavy.
Drinks gas like nobodys buisness.

You see, it is what a good sports/muscle car is in the era it was built.
Sorta fast? The SRT8 Charger (which has run 12.8/12.9) is faster than the following classic muscle cars, stock for stock:

1970 Cuda 440 6pk (13.0)
1970 Cuda 426 (13.1)
1970 Challenger 426 (13.1)
Plus others...

Re: due respect to charger owners

Having owned 2 '68 Charger R/T's, the "new" charger seems to fall a little short in comparison. No offense intended. Great car, but no comparison to the milestone Chargers, especially the '68.

How is drinking gas like nobody's business inconsistent with being a Charger? Do you even know what a big block is?

Besides, new Chargers are not at all bad on gas. My R/T is getting 19.5 MPG in my commuting cycle, the same as my puny Lincoln LS with the puny 3.9L V8 before it.

And saying the new Charger is "sorta fast" and the FWD Chargers were "fast" is just plain stupid.

And no Charger has ever been a sports car.

I know what you mean, but the new cars are a hell of a lot easier to live with on a daily basis. It's an apples-to-oranges comparison.

In the 70's feul was around $1 a gallon, so they didnt need to be feul efficent.
When the omni chargers were around, gas was more expensive, so they needed to be feul efficent (can you see a pattern emerging here?, the price of gas reflects on how much gas it uses)

Now, feul is (in some places)$3-$4 a gallon, and the new magnum sedan is comparatively(sp) un-efficent.

See what I mean now?

And by "sorta fast" I ment compared to the new mustang, which because there is no torino is what it is compared to.

Re: due respect to charger owners

Right you are, DUTCH. Apples to oranges. My first '68 R/T (new) was my daily driver/family car/race car tow vehicle. A great car, never failing to perform. It hauled my '62 Plymouth NHRA legal national record holding D/SA drag car all over the south at 75-100 MPH with no problem.
Outrageous style, performance, and comfort.
My issue with the "new" Charger is the extra 2 doors and the front end. The '68's were jaw-dropping dynamic. A styling masterpiece. They screamed performance. Not so much with the "new" version. Too generic by comparison. But then, it's just my opinion.

Hmmmm .... Now I haven't seen this magnum sedan that you speak of but I would LOVE to get some info on it, it sounds interesting! Thats a bummer if it is not efficent with gas though; if this is the case then I guess I will have to stick with the charger.
