Fantastic Cars and Foolish Money: A Day at the Barrett-Jackson Auction

By John DiPietro Email Date posted: 02-10-2005

Before all of you Barrett-Jackson auction fans get worked up about the title of this piece, let me state that I have a love/hate relationship with this world-famous classic/muscle/collector car auction. Being a car fanatic, I fully appreciate the mostly pristine examples of desirable iron that annually cross the block in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Here, in one place, I can get my fix for classics such as an Auburn Boattail Speedster, Packard 12 dual-cowl Phaeton and Lincoln Mark II. And I also get my fill of flashy, pavement-scorching muscle cars, such as SS Chevelles, Olds 442s, Boss Mustangs, AMXs, Vettes of all years and, of course, the ridiculously popular Cudas and Challengers. Housed in huge tents, the cars can be ogled before they get in line to go before the fast-talking man with the gavel.

Re: Fantastic Cars and Foolish Money

I was last year and will again this year be a bidder at the Palm Beach show. They have tons of cool vendors there as well. Lots of neat race teams w/their stuff as well. I went to the Concurs show last week here for $65 p/person WTF ?? Anyway cool stuff w/the best being the Ferrari Enzo FXX. Only one of 29 I think, some dude from Miami had it, he was like 30 y/o, bastage!!. He had a regular Enzo (regular being relative here) and a F40 and F50.
