Yes, I believe you are correct. I know we have to have our part ready to roll by Nov 1. I have been in the automotive arena for many years but it has been a long time since I have seen excitement like this for what is coming down the line.

Re: GM revives Camaro muscle car (add all Camaro related posts here)

Lol hemispherically challenged, it wasnt crap, every car that drag races was subject to breakdowns. My challenger included I broke two shifting forks inside the transmission, and it also spun a rod bearing at the end of one season in the year closer at national trails, and i torqued a driveshaft out of the rear yoke on a launch. That was the sum total of my breakdowns over a total of two seasons of drag racing, I also street drove mine everyday on top of it. I knew a lot of chevy owners who by the way loved my car and its low maintenance, especially for the punishment it took. Racer s no matter of what stripe Mopar GM Ford etc... Talked about these things amongst ourselves and what we see out there, and what we deal with maintenance wise on our vehicles. A majority of the GM racer s were only racing GM because the parts were so much cheaper and that allowed them to race to begin with. We are talking about hobbyist and enthusiats and those with aspirations to go pro also. We were out there on the front line dealing out harsh punishment on our vehicles. Most of us found a lot this humurous I am sorry you did not.

Chevy Mall now has some 5th gen posters, gotta admit they're pretty cool. Will be interesting to see how DCX handles advertising for the Challenger...

Re: GM revives Camaro muscle car (add all Camaro related posts here)

I see trouble...

I came to this site excited about the new Challenger as I saw Vanishing Point at least 50 times when I was a young'un. I wanted that white Challenger for my first car, but alas it didn't happen. (I ended up with a '61 Comet station wagon! )

Once I destroyed that car in about six months (the three-on-the-tree couldn't handle my 'power shifts'), I ran across my first 'real' car. It was a '69 Camaro SS396! Oh how I loved that car!

Still the Challenger remained my 'dream car'. Fast forward four or five years after the SS396 went away (it became a full blown drag car -- but not mine), I scored yet again my second 'real' car. This time it was a '69 Camaro Z-28 (see a trend here?) Oh how I loved that car too!

In the back of my mind the Challenger remained; the Z went away also as 'responsibilities' reared their head. Marriage, family, work, etc.

OK, so now we're in the 21st Century and the Challenger comes to life. Hooray! Finally I can acquire my dream car! But hold on; the Camaro is resurrected as well! And I like it!

Decisions, decisions, decisions...

Regards,

Mark

Re: GM revives Camaro muscle car (add all Camaro related posts here)

Unfortunately Mark, it may not be much of a decision after all.

I grew up as a GM guy, Drooling over pics of the Green/Gold '68 Camaro RS w/a BumbleBee stripe that my mom bought used for my dad in '70 for under $3000, it got traded for a '80 6.6 T-Topped T/A (I still remember washing the gold honeycomb "Mags")
Then my Lil sis came, and it was traded for a '76 Chevette....

Then, when I was 14, My Brother bought my aunts used '68 LeMans for $800 (again!), Rebuilt/Souped up/Chromed out the #'s matching 350/ and rebuilt the original 3spd Powerglide, All new interior.... You get the Idea!

FastForward to Detriot this year and BAM! The Challenger Changed me! I have been So Dang Excited over this car since it was unveiled....

THEN I find out it is going to be limited to 30,000 built, limited in engine/drivetrain options, Blah-ditty, Blaha, Blah, Blah.....!

I'm so Dang TOURQUED and PO'd right now because the reality is that the better looking of the New breed of Musclecars soon to be dominating the highways is going to be only for the Rich! I currently own a 2006 Mustang GT... I've been biding my time and saving to get this car(Challenger), and the truth of the matter is, after Presales, limited Availabilty, Dealer Mark-ups (AkA PRICE GOUGING!), if I'm going to trade my car at all, I have no choice, it will have to be for a Camaro! Not to downplay the Cool factor of the new Camaro... It is Friggin' Awesome, but, to put it simply, GM knows its customer base, and obviously appreciates them a little more than DCX, because they made the dream car of my kids' generation alot more attainable for the customers that got them where they are today.

I hope I'm Wrong.

Smokn~

Re: GM revives Camaro muscle car (add all Camaro related posts here)

Smokn, I wouldn't take everything you read about the Challenger as carved in stone gospel just yet. Alot can happen in the next 2 years before it and the Camaro come out, so personally I'm gonna wait another couple of years before I make any real decisions. GM says they plan to sell 100,000 Camaros a year, which I think is an awfully lofty goal (not saying it can't be done, but it is an awfully optimistic projection), especially since the Camaro likely won't have a Firebird twin this time around to help out with sales figures.

And as far as GM being knowing and appreciating their customer base more than DCX... as far as I'm concerned GM is first and foremost beholding to their beancounters - in my opinion if GM truly appreciated their customer base they wouldn't have let the F-body wither on the vine and die the undignified death that they did. That new 5th gen should have come out in 2003, not 2009.

OK, soap box rant over... for now.

Re: GM revives Camaro muscle car (add all Camaro related posts here)

Smokn, I hear you about the limited availability / price gouging -- that will be key for my decision as well. I'll be d@mned if I'm going to pay a 'dealer markup' for any auto.

I'm more inclined to wait a year or two after the intro just to make sure all the bugs are worked out and see what additional offerings might come down the line.

Regards,

Mark
