Re: I Want a Challenger.........But..................

Personally, I like Mustangs but, I like Mopar better for now anyways. And just for those who know the 03 Cobra were underrated horsepower wise. They were actually closer to 440hp via that they put down 380-385 rwhp with no mods.
However, depending on what Dodge does another reason to buy a Challenger is if you can get the MDS and a 5.7L V8 then that's another plus. I estimate the SRT version of the Challenger should run mid 12s? Just a wild guess.

Re: I Want a Challenger.........But..................

Looks like Ford is taking Dodge's ideas.

The Tremec 6-speed, with its beefed-up gears, triple synchros in 1st and 2nd, and high multiplication in 1st thanks to a 2.97:1 instead of a 2.66:1 ratio, provides quick, snappy shifts. This is the same gearbox found in the Dodge Viper, but thanks to some changes in the linkage, it feels less balky and much more precise in action. The 3-4 upshift still takes slightly more effort to snick positively into place, but overall, the gearbox's action is intuitive.

Re: I Want a Challenger.........But..................

Top 10 reasons not to buy the GT500 vs the Challenger
  1. Too Small
  2. 12.9 sec. 1/4 mile ? The Challenger should smoke it.
  3. Although it may be quick, it's no 'Eleanor', as the new one lacks visual appeal (doesn't have that certain 'wow factor').
  4. Challenger will have a negligable HP difference, for $10k LESS!
  5. Shelby's name on the car!
  6. (next post fills in the next one)
  7. (next post fills in the next one)
  8. (next post fills in the next one)
  9. (next post fills in the next one)
  10. It's still a FORD
I beleive the tranny in the Terminator Cobras is the same as the Viper as well.

With Cam and Headers I'll bet even the 5.7l will give a run for its money

Re: I Want a Challenger.........But..................

since when was having carrol shelby's name on your car a bad thing? not to mention there would be no viper if not for him......i would guess that performance will be close, both cars are gonna be tanks with similar horsepower(depending on which powertrains are available in the dodge), although ford listened to all the cobra folks sick of irs breakage and put in a sold axle which will be better at the strip......if the gt500 is gonna get price jacked at the dealer, you don't think the challenger will as well? i know there is much debate about this right now, but i highly doubt a 450hp 6.1 powered challenger will be 10k less than the gt500 coupe's est. 40k, and forget about it if it's got the 392.....i can see a 5.7 powered challenger starting at around 28k, but not a 6.1 or 6.4, and if there is a base 5.7 and/or 4.0 challenger then the higher hp srt or whatever will be available in limited quanities, and they will be going for above msrp.....
as far as the ease of modding, the fords already have a plethora of parts(mcuh more so than the hemi) available, and they have supercharging down to a science...

all that being said i've never been into fords too much, and i'll still take the challenger, but a little bit of objectivity never hurts
