Re: I Want a Challenger.........But..................
A large Ford dealer on the north side of Atlanta already has a list of names of people that are "very" interested in the Shelby. Two of those on the list are wealthy car collectors that won't hesitate to pay the estimated 10K markup the first couple of Shelby models delivered will command. I went to three large volume dealers in the north metro area and they all maintained there would be large markups initially, and until sales slowed.
It's the same with the SRT8's in some areas. Chrysler dealer in Conyers still has a 10K mark up on their Charger SRT8's. I messed around with them some and I'm sure there's wiggle room on the markup. But they are not going to sell at MSRP before early spring. A large Chrysler dealer on the south end of Atlanta is the first one I've spoken to that indicated they "might" sell their 300C SRT8's "real close" to MSRP to a "well qualified" buyer. You can use Edmunds to easily determine which dealer has how many of what model in stock. Which tells me I could get one at sticker were I in the market. As long as there are people with more money than sense paying the markups in a given market, most dealers will continue to mark up the price until slowing sales force them off the dime. The same game will play out with the Challenger, depends on where you live as to how much for how long. But I'd wager the (likely) Challenger SRT8 will be cheaper than a Shelby by 2,3 or 4 K. And, the Challenger concept/prototype is a much nicer looking car to boot!

Re: I Want a Challenger.........But..................
With a 12.9 Quarter Mile Time, a 3800lb (hopefully) Challenger will have her hands full, even with 6.4 Hemi Power.

Re: I Want a Challenger.........But..................
Was just talking with the dealer that I got my GT from and they are planning on selling the Shelbys that they get for over 50K. He said he will not be surprised if they get 55K. That is way to much just to have the word Shelby on a car and it only has 18's on it.

Re: I Want a Challenger.........But..................
I have a 2005 Mustang GT, which I will trade in for the new Challenger, hopefully fairly soon. I love my car, but what can I say, the new Challenger is just sheer perfection, at least for me, so I am sorry that the Stang will have to go, but it's what I want.
I considered the GT500, but as already mentioned availability will be quite limited and price gouging from dealership will be a nasty factor to count in as well (20-25k mark up, quite unbelievable if you ask me...but heard it too many times...so I get the feeling it's what it will happen...). But what sealed the deal for me it's the fact that the rear suspension will still be a solid rear axle. This type of transmission can still deliver quite nicely in my GT almost all the time, but I wouldn't be very comfortable knowing that it's what will handle those 475 hp... |
