New "town & country" van w/ 240 miles wasted transmission already.

My wife picked up her new 08 minivan last week and tonight the transmission went south. Upon backing out of the garage, she put it in drive to exit the driveway and it sat for a few seconds then jerked hard then started to move. I thought it was weird, but we started driving and the trans wouldn't leave out of 1st, the tach kept creeping up. Turned around went back home and shut it off.... Started it up again and it seemed fine this time.....We get a few miles from home and get on the interstate and it starts downshifting on it's own then jerking again then the tach starts to near the redline until she lets off. She goes to give it gas and the tach shoots up again as if it';s in nuetral. We coast off to the next exit and discover it only has 1st and reverse and nuetral and park. We nursed it home and here it sits....240 miles new.

This is the 1st "mopar" we have ever owned....am I gonna be in for it? I was going to order the R/T in a month or two...It's got me wondering now.

Have never had major issue with Mopar. Minor stuff but they always fix it... Maybe you got a lemon, either way, they owe you a new car during the shirt period you owned it.. Check your State laws.

It sounds like it went in to "limp mode". Could be an electrical glitch, take it to the dealer and have it checked out. When the controller senses a problem, it puts the trans in "limp mode" and you only have 2nd gear and reverse. If it happens again, just pull over and shut it off and restart. It should reset itself until it senses the problem again.

Well, if you look into the history of Chrysler, you'll soon learn not only did they develop the Hemi engine that changed the face of Nascar and NHRA Drag Racing, they also designed and developed the 727 TorqueFlite -- one of the most indestructable automatics ever built.

Hang in there... the Chrysler mini-van is considered one of the best on the market. I'm not a van person, but the corporate fleet I do have access to, I prefer driving the Chrysler to the others.

You made the right decision.

Haha. Ironic. My mothers Jeep Cherokee just had the tach die on her tonight too. Also; never call a van a Mopar again. I keel you.

Yikes, not good;wonder how it made it out of the factory and to the dealer ? I've heard rave reviews;heck I was just in Colorado Springs and got an '08 Town & Country E85...It was very nice, smooth and has this neat 'lil short stubby shifter up on dash. Also, I was just thinking of the 727 Torqueflite the other day....Yep always heard those were the best...strong trans. It was coupled with that 'lil 318 in my first '70 Challenger....quite quick off the line !!! You'll be satisfied : or else !!!

That's what I read in the owner's manual, so we did it and a few minutes later as I said, when we got on the interstate, it started again. I am going to call the dealer in the morning and see what they want to do.

It can be unnerving when these things happen....bring your baby to the dealer....they have the diagnostic tools to find out what is going on.

Sounds like a bad TCM.

Keep us posted.
