Question Rearend questions

Are the LX-LY platforms all IRS,or is there a possibility of a strong, simple solid rear axle? (with a nice 4.10 gearset !!!) How is the IRS holding up to drag style launches? Anyone tried slicks on their SRT8s? Just wondering... I'm still going to buy one ASAP to replace my '70 R/T,SE

Re: Rearend questions.

That is a very good question, one would think since Dodge is going back ''old school''' they would bring back the DANA rear end and call it bullet proof.

4.10's would be nice..........really nice however what about the 500hp version can u say 4.56-That would be the ultimate!

Re: Rearend questions.

The rear-end is the problem thats going to make the challenger more expensive then the live rear axle mustang (this months Motor Trend). I would narrow down a ram/dakota rear-end and use that. These cars are going to be highly modified by their owners for performance usage rather than 300 owners that modify for bling. Another reason they need to build it..CORNER THE PERFORMANCE SECTOR..Turbo SRT-4 cars, bling cars and V8 RWD 2dr market. Mopar Performance/Direct Connection..REJOICE!!

I never saw the point in IRS and preferred solid axles until I bought a Lincoln LS. Now I'm a real convert. It would be hard to go back to a solid rear end car, especially in a performance application. Sure, I'm not talking drag cars here, but the first time you accellerate over railroad tracks while turning in an IRS car, you'll be sold.

Re: Rearend questions.

I would guess that they would go with a solid rear axle to keep the cost low.

Re: Rearend questions.

My brother (who works for DCX) was telling me that there is talk of the Challenger having a live axle if it goes to production; mostly for cost purposes. Done right, a live axle would be just fine by me.

Re: Rearend questions.

I vote for a strong IRS, I'll give up a lil launching ability for the better handling.
