Toyota in Nascar

Is anyone concerned about Toyota getting into Nascar? I was at the California speedway this weekend and noticed there were a lot fewer Mopars and a lot more Toyotas in the truck race. Supposedly Toyota will be in Nextel cup next year and they are already dumping lots of cash. Since Dodge got back in I can actually sit thru a race. I root for the Dodge closest to the front.

Re: Toyota in Nascar

Especially since they're gonna be racing CAMRYs.... I mean come on... Sure, they're not real camrys, just like they're not real Chargers or Montes.... But still... The idea of seeing camrys racing in nascar just irks me...

I also heard that Honda will be one of the next ones to join as well.

Nascar, will never be the same!!! Blame all the consumers who bought their cars over the years, and now their company's(foreign) are getting bigger,...and ours(American) are having trouble and getting smaller!

Re: Toyota in Nascar

Toyota and Honda have driven other engine manufacturers out of open wheel racing as well. They get in, force other manufacturers out and then they bail. Toyota gets in first then Honda is soon to follow.

Re: Toyota in Nascar

From what I've read elseware Bill Davis has been sued and lost to DCX for giving their engineering work on the Cup Car motors to Toyota to work with and it sounds like GM could have a solid case for it as well. I remember reading a while back about Ferrari having an ex-employee arrested for industrial espionage(sp?) after taking designs and going to work for Toyota. SOmething else I'e been wonderig is that since NASCAR has decided to go to their "supercar" where the only difference will be motor and stickers in combination with GM and Fords finacial woes, how much longer wil it be before they pull out and are replaced by Toyota and maybe Honda as primary financing (if those two will even pony up the money for it) for NASCAR.

Re: Toyota in Nascar

Honda and Toyota certainly have the cash. The suit was for 6.5 million against bill Davis. I hope Dodge has a good year.

Re: Toyota in Nascar

The more the merrier. Look what happened to CART when the engine makers pull out, even the IRL is feeling the effect. Compatition is what makes racing profitable, so the Frances will welcome Honda, Nissan etc..w/open arms.
I hate to say it but Japan has a whole generation of upcoming cirlce track drivers that are cutting their teeth in the Drift cars. Once they grow out of Formula D, Toyota will have no prob giving them seat time in their stockers. Good bye Godon hello Fumaskai.

In my opinion Nextel is doing everything they can to destroy NASCAR by aggressively over broadening its appeal. They are talking it to sickening levels of commercialism. They've pretty much lost me as a fan!
