What's up with the "I don't care about speed" talk?

I guess we all have our reasons for getting one of these cars. However, I can't for the life of me understand all the talk in other threads about not being concerned with the speed performance of the Challenger. Isn't that a huge part of what these cars are about? Sure, you can group cars into different classes but I want to be top dog amongst those that compete with the Challenger. I was born during the muscle car era but didn't get to prowl the roads during that time. Maybe that is why I see this as a chace to do that now and not just cruise. As always, these are just my thoughts and I mean no disrespect to anyone or their reasons for getting a Chally.

Re: What's up with the "I don't care about speed" talk?

I suppose that would be the reason for the V6 Challenger, for those who want the styling and fuel mileage without the tire frying performance. The SE fits the niche of those who would otherwise buy a V6 Mustang and not a GT.
Shoot, at least they're buying a Mopar.

Re: What's up with the "I don't care about speed" talk?

...I've owned mine for 6 weeks and have yet to "try 'er out"...I lived thru the muscle car era, had hot new cars in 68-69 and destroyed them mechanically is short order...there is always a faster car regardless what you drive....I just like to cruise in mine and not worry about who is king of the street anymore, been there done that....if I have a real craving for speed, I have faster cars in my garage than the Challenger anyway

Kinda feel sorry for those cars living their life in a bubble like that. HAHA! Nice stable.

What attracts you to a car first? Its engine? Its dash? Most likely the exterior. You can always do what you want from there. I owned a Challenger when I was a kid and thought the design was awesome. I also own a Viper and Grand National, so its also not my fastest car, but frankly, unless your going to the track with it, I dont think it matters. Frankly, the streets are a really stupid place to race and a easy way to get arrested.

...the 08 Challenger is more like a time machine for me...great looks, great performance, and I can drive it daily, just like the old days...I have several old Challengers too, but they can't be used everyday, too old/rare/etc etc...

Problems..problems.. (Ha,ha!!) I'm sure you've earned them all. I've seen some of your list, and every once in a while you treat us to a shot of a few more. Please keep it up!! Thoroughly enjoyed.

Re: What's up with the "I don't care about speed" talk?

While I've never said "I don't care about speed", it isn't the most important thing about this car to me. It's the overall package and after having the Charger SRT8 I just didn't want a non-SRT Chally. The power is great when you need it, but my main interest in this car wasn't about racing ricers. It's also our daily driver, it won't live in a bubble.
