Torque convertors

Was looking for more information on torque converters for my 392

What do they actually do

I was wondering how future mods might affect it
( supercharger ? Headers ? Cam? Tune ?

How much to install ? Cost?

I've always been curious about this as well. You hear guys like Brian talk about having them and making their car quicker but how is it as a daily driver and is it an expensive install?
