Lockpick Backup Camera - custom mount

Merry Christmas to me - got a Lockpick BARCAM221 backup camera for X-Mas! Have been doing a bunch of research on the install portion of this and have come up with a few questions for you experts....

One or more users on here noted that the license plate light tends to wash out the picture at night. A relay was added to turn off the license plate light - great idea! But, having looked at the factory install of the license plate light I have to wonder...

* Has anybody simply removed the factory license plate light and installed the Lockpick BARCAM221 to the mounting surface that held the license plate light?

* Has anybody tried using a couple of small white LED's at either end of the Lockpick BARCAM221 to illuminate the license plate?

Seems to me this could be done fairly simply. It could require 2 mounting holes in the factory bumper cover (above the license plate, on the horizontal portion), or create a custom mount that allows the Lockpick BARCAM221 to be mounted to the factory license plate light mounts.

Thoughts / comments?

The BARCAM seems to use the existing plate bolts to fasten it to the car. You can mount it to the lower plate holes. If you do the ends of the bolts will dig into the bumper as there are no mounting holes there. I put bolts for my plate frame and backed them up with foam to protect the paint, not that it would really matter if it got scratched.

Anyway, I went a slightly different route and mounted a small camera from Amazon offset to the left to prevent blocking the the plate light and to avoid the light washout issue.

BW2011, that is a pretty sharp looking mount you came up with. Will have to see where this goes with my install - should be interesting.

Anybody else?

Although mine wasn't done with the lockpick, I modified my camera bracket to fit into the cutout and use the factory screws from the plate light. I haven't come up with a mount/lens for the bulb yet, but it's been there for a while now with no ill effect, and it lights up the plate without washing out the camera.

Some have mounted their backup cams in the spoiler which gives a better perspective in regards to backup up and the actual edge of the bumper. I'll try and find a picture.

Update, here is what Luke from steve white parts sells and is a very nice solution
