Hot Dog Fans?

As I got older, I'm willing to spend more on quality. Quality of food for example.

Many years ago, I decided to try Nathan's hot dogs. It was great. I don't mind paying $4.89 for a pack of 8. I can get Bar S brand for $0.99.

Sometimes I would catch them on sale for $3.69 for example. I may stock up with a few packs.

Now I see them selling at $2.89 regular price at Walmart. Not on sale, but regular price.

So what did they take out in terms of quality? Food prices normally goes up, correct?

Maybe Walmart's buying power? Was the price you used to pay at Walmart, or somewhere else?

This refers to non-food products, but I have heard that walmart demands a certain price point for items they inquire about from possible suppliers. It's up to the supplier to change "whatever it takes" so that they meet Walmarts price demands and are accepted as a supplier.

Other great tasting brands are Boar's Head, Oscar Meyer Select and Ballpark.

Do you guys ever watch Nathan's 4th of July hot dog eating contest, from Coney Island, on television? Last year, Joey Chestnut, a professional eater, ate 72 hot dogs in 10 minutes. Man he really loves his dogs!

Joey is a local, from San Jose, you should see the eating contest categories they have, and how many of each they eat. It's amazing. And some of these guys are not real big guys. A Guy

It is very difficult to find real hot dogs any more, and it isn't possible to do so at locations such as Wally World. The stunts they pull to lower the cost are using mostly mystery poultry parts, and putting less product in the package that still has 8 wieners in it, but only weighs 10 or 12 ounces. Real hot dogs are made entirely from pork and beef, and the ones I've found cost about $10.00 a pound and are located in the gourmet section of the market that carries them about 50 miles from where I live. BTW, the last brand I know of to make real hot dogs at a competitive price was Farmer Johns. You can thank the mandate for ethanol as a fuel for rising food prices.

Oh yeah, if I want beef I'll have a burger, and poultry mostly needs to be deep fried.
