Can't reach max speed 😞

Hi there. In my R/T Classic (2012, 50.000+ mile, automatic transmission) I got problem to reach Vmax. Doesn't matter if I try on D, Sport or manual shifting. I driving for example 120 mph, kick down, 4 gear comes, the car start to accelerate, at 140 mph some thing cut the power out and I can't go faster. Another example, I got 5 gear on manual mode, 120 mph and I press gas pedal to the end, after 130 mph car won't go faster.
Three weeks ago I got error code P0741, I change transmission oil and it helps. The error code was deleted but still can't reach Vmax. Any clue what's going on? BTW, my english is not good enough so... 🙂.

I'd be content with 140mph.

I read before, no govenor.

A quick search of CT shows that this has come up many times before. Depending upon whom you ask, it looks like Gen 3 R/Ts are electronically limited to either 138, 140, or 142.5 MPH.

The 2015 and up have speed limiters on some models as well. I recently got the computer unlocked on my 2018 SXT+ and was able to remove (increase) the 135 mph limiter. What the limiter does is stop giving the engine fuel at the set speed.

Walk softly but carry a big stick, or in this case, boost.

Hmm......I had a 2014 SXT Rallye Redline with the 3.6 V6 and I hit 140 doing a top end run.

Haven't done a top end run with my 2018 R/T yet.....

Welcome to Challengertalk I have always heard 138-140. They are governed in the tune from what I've read. I believe that restriction can be removed with a tuner. Tire rating should be considered at that point.

@Hal H or @Slidd would likely know for sure

does fuel flow cut off ever so briefly? My 2010 RT was governed to something like 144mph. I do not know the variances for 2012. If the tires that came stock with your car are not “speed” rates I would be sure there is an electronic governor in place.

2012 SRT automatic, PB 12.0490 with MT drag radials and trinity 93 octane tune.

Labor Day 2018, maguson supercharger 5.5psi, forged piston/rods, Hellcat injectors, 10/1 compression, tuned for 90 octane. [email protected] with lots of room for improvement.

Thanks for your answers. So it can be speed limiter? Good to know because I was worried it got something to do with that error code. Any way it's weird, because that speed limiter sometimes turns on at +/-126mph, another time when I got 4th gear going to end it's 142 mph. Best speed test result was 152mph and the limiter turn on.

Btw. Good clue about those tire speed ratings. My present tire set is not stock. They got the right speed ratings, so don't worry guys.

Instead of worrying about making it go over 140 mph, I'd try to get it to get to 140 mph in a quarter mile, then increase the 140 mph and decrease the time it takes to get it there.
