Understandable, they were not bad vehicles in spite of the usual anti-Big 3 rhetoric when it comes to passenger cars.

That said, you must consider that at the time there was a good reason (a VERY good reason as it turned out) for the elimination of 200/Dart - doing so freed up resources that were better allocated towards development of new Ram 1500, Wrangler, & Gladiator. Also some of that money was needed for Italy's pet projects (relaunch of ALFA in NAFTA and finishing touches on Giulia & Stelvio).

In hindsight, Sergio was 2.5 yrs ahead of the ENTIRE industry in seeing the market move away from the B & C car segment and back to CUV/SUV/Trucks. Yeah it was a bad look publicly at the time, but it has paid off big time (2017 was record-breaking for FCA, and 2018 was even better, in spite of basically plummeting sales in China and a down year in Europe).

Bottom line - Mr. Marchionne correctly predicted that buyers would move back to SUVs, etc...a pretty bold move at the time. GM & Ford, on the other hand, are STILL in the process of exiting these segments as I type this...so RIP Dart/200, you took one for the team And RIP Sergio!

I don't know what the future holds for the Challenger, but I'm loving my new 2018!
Redesign it? I don't know about that so much it is pretty awsome just as it is. A little more refining like auto up window switch, electric seat back tilt, SPARE TIRE, thicker paint, it seems very thin, tires that actually last more than 12 to 15k miles. I'm sure you all can come up with more improvements to the Challenger than I can. My Challenger is one of the nicest cars I've owned just as my Ram 3500 4x4 dually is one of the nicest trucks I have owned. Dodge has stepped up its game over the last several years and all my vehicles are FCA products now since 2015.
Do I hear Cuda added to the FCA line up? That would be something nice!

They can thank Obama for rushing the Dart, they were required as part of Fiat gaining control to have a car with 40 mpg, the Dart aero or what ever they called it. The 9 spd wasn't ready so they cobbled it together with 6 sp Hyndai trans. My brother has a 16 GT, 2.4, it isn't a bad car, he got a nice deal on it. Like 15 grand with leather, smoked chrome wheels and it is much better than a crappy civic or corolla junk.

Funny all the Obama cars GM and Ford and Chrysler were forced to produce/develop after 2010 when all the political hacks were railing against any car/suv which didn't get like 30+ mpg all turned out to be flops as the market rejected them and everyone migrated to trucks and larger cars or CUV's.

Ironic the media currently doesn't want to cover that aspect of the story. Chrysler could of developed 2 new cars/suvs or trucks instead of the Dart and 200. I don't think they were bad cars, the new 200 was panned for poor egress into the back seat but who gives a crap when 90% of the time I have no one in the back seat.

I never really had any issues with the backseat on my 2015. I was pretty much the designated driver every day during lunch at work, and I never really heard any complaints. It was also a fantastic road trip car.

I thought it was tiny and used its space poorly. Hell, I was more comfortable in my brother's 500.

The reason I love the challenger so much.

^ this is absolute truth, hope more people read about & understand this eventually. I don't think the press reports on it because either they don't know or remember...or care these days

Ya want TARP $ to restructure? Then we want 40 MPG. The gov't admins knew, and didn't care, that NO ONE would buy econoboxes even when GM/Chrysler did their best to warn them they'd be wasting public funds.

Meanwhile the casinos (*ahem* 'banks'?) that wiped out all the capital markets (leveraging our money 40-1), the $ which GM/Chrysler/ANY DAMN company would have used to restructure instead of TARP - what'd they give up exactly?

/End rant

(I could talk about this for hours...TARP/the collapse/gov't intervention - there's SO MUCH people don't know or understand about that period. It's almost too crazy to comprehend or even think about. 'Don't look down' kind of thing!
