Seriously?

It's a platform, and the engine has been updated a few times, as well as the electronics inside.

Old platform means nothing, except perhaps to safety ratings and weight, and the platform isn't old enough to matter to the former and won't make that much difference in the latter unless we lose size.

With the 'Vette, there were more hi-po engine options that came along the years - big block, Tri-carb engines, etc as well as the word getting out about the various models / engines. But that's right.

The only other model that had a really long run was the Mercedes SL '72 - '89. It was pretty dated looking alongside the 80s models in their line that had been revamped numerous times. It sold well, and over 50% of units shipped to US.

Loved the C3 Vette 68-82, the 69 was amazing. Eight different engines available, five transmissions and seven different rear axles from 2.73 to 4.56 available so could build it any way you want. I'll take an L88 please!

This platform has not only underpinned the Challenger since 2008 but has its roots back in the 1990's Mercedes E class.

Platforms mean so much as the foundation of the vehicle; its handling characteristics, crash ratings, performance etc, it is very long in the tooth. Does speak for German engineering that they've been able to use this architecture for near 30 years by the time it's done.

Dated as it is, it wouldn't surprise me if they push it back even further to 2021 or 22. It still seems to be working for the majority and FCA updates the Challenger and Charger nicely.

Since we are talking about long production runs on the same platform, and johnnymopar mentioned German engineering , I believe the V W Bug may hold the title. 1938-1979 or something along those lines. Pretty amazing that they continued to sell in decent numbers right up until the end.

Yea, the '69 is the cleanest looking of the C3's. IMHO, the '70-72's, with their flared fenders and chrome bumpers, are the best looking. Having owned a '72, I may be a bit biased thou. Fun cars, just not practical.

With all the options available (in the early years) one could order/build a road racer, a drag car, a boulevard cruiser, or any combination there of.

In the media - the rumour mill has finally corrected itself:

Dodge Challenger and Charger to Stick Around until 2021 ? News ? Car and Driver | Car and Driver Blog

There were all these speculations of all-new for MY '18, but all along it was new platform (Giorgio) for MY '21 (intro in fall of '20)

It is the same story on the Ram pickups. New design was to be out in 2017 as an '18 model but the latest has them as 2019 models, maybe even 2020.

Thumbs up Bring back the Imperial.

When FCA kills off the 300, they should return to the drawing board with the Imperial using the Giorgio platform, to compete with the Cadillac CT6 & Lincoln Continental.
